Kira has killed about 20 glowniggers, 2 racemixers, and countless criminals. He is an optimist who only wishes for a better world and has done nothing wrong. L pursuing him is less justifiable than Naoto chasing the P4 gang for nobody dying in 6 months.
If Light didn't fall for L's retarded trap in the very beginning, L would've never caught his trail.
@Hoss That is the wrong way to look at it because if any of us had a death note we would probably never use it the way Light does. Light could not do anything but fall for the trap because the only guy who would do what Light does would respond to that provocation. The show is not at all subtle in showing how alike they are and how they need each other as a crucible
@DrRyanSkelton Naoto's big tiddies
You're right, if I got a Death Note I wouldn't waste my time with low level criminals. My opening move would be to wait for BlackRock's next earnings call, then start scribbling names.
@DrRyanSkelton @Hoss I personally think DR'S strength comes from two autistic men of great will but oppossite moral compass playing tag against one another. The height of it all was when Light regains his memories and their story turns into a tragedy. It's was a very entertaining twist on the WhoDunIt story format and it would've been a modern classic if not for the 2nd half.
@SNEK so true
@Hoss I was thinking about that. Folks here with the death note could extremely easily make the world a better place with the slightest modicum of diligence in finding the names of certain people but using demonic means would probably invite demonic reprisals from THEIR demons
@DrRyanSkelton @Hoss use if the DN is presented as a deal with the devil pretty much. So I'd expect that trying to DN the principalities of the modern world might not work out well for (You)
@Dudebro @Hoss @DrRyanSkelton "Shekel Yair Diddlestein"
"Light, you can't just make u- Wait, that's a hit. Are you serious?"
"Light, you can't just make u- Wait, that's a hit. Are you serious?"
@Hoss @DrRyanSkelton an article in the new york times would go something like
>the AIDS epidemic: what's behind the alarming rise in deaths among the US intelligence community?
>the AIDS epidemic: what's behind the alarming rise in deaths among the US intelligence community?
@SNEK @DrRyanSkelton @Hoss Death Note is still one of my easiest recommends to anime newcomers, it instantly gets you hooked, its appeal is universal, and its two main characters are iconic for a reason.
@DrRyanSkelton @Hoss it escalates the conflict to have higher stakes, and there's an emotional gutt punch when Kira's dad bites it.
But the replacement L's are completely lacking on charisma in every way. It doesn't help that the nature of the conflict for the replacement Ls is their bidding to become the next L. The stakes completely lack the personal element in the 2nd half. Neither Near or Melo could care less about L's sense of justice and how it differs from Kira. They didn't even care for Watari despite being implied that the old man was running the super genius orphan farm. L was genuinely hurt, surprised and heart broken when Watari died.
For the two replacement L, the Kira case is not personal at all, it's just a rite of passage to take on the title of world's top detective.
Even with the stakes raising on part 1, part 2 just can't compare.
The alt ending where Ryuk jusf offs Light because no one can oppose Kira anymore is a better ending.

@ChristiJunior @SNEK @DrRyanSkelton @Hoss he took the potato chip and he ate it and it unironically stayed in my head for years.
@supersid333 @DrRyanSkelton @Hoss Yeah. Didn't care for them at all. Part 1 i could easily cheer for either Kira or L but Part 2 is all Light carrying a two man show with lesser foils.
@DEERBLOOD @Dudebro @Hoss @DrRyanSkelton I'm surprised shedinja isn't on that list
@Dudebro @MisterLister @DrRyanSkelton @Hoss Yeah he hasn't been active enough to earn my ire
@Dudebro @DEERBLOOD @DrRyanSkelton @MisterLister @Hoss I just played a round of call of duty with the zoomer bros and there was a guy on the other team named Hebrew Hammer so we went out of our way to strategically kill him with gas traps
@shedinja @DrRyanSkelton @Dudebro @MisterLister @Hoss You only get to post that once a day and you already used it on Alex Jones
HA
HA
@Hoss @DrRyanSkelton tl;dr pic
he saw it as a godless world. not acting would destroy people's belief in him, particularly people who only respond to being afraid, to ruthlessness, to brute force and power, of which many would be criminals, precisely the people he's trying to stop.
he's not just some glownigger testing tech on criminals, or a virus, or whatever. he's a god - a REAL god. would a REAL god not strike down those who mock him?
and if L is showing this video to the whole world to assuage peoples fears and put trust back in law enforcement, light has the perfect chance to show the whole world he's a god and they should be afraid.
him being the false light bringer and pride being his fall from the very beginning was likely an intended narrative aspect aswell. was it dumb? was it retarded that he didnt even consider a trap? yeah but you can kinda understand the logic.
the real egregious error if you ask me is light never considering that his very specific selection of local japanese criminals to punish-particularly those accessed from his dads own computer and local news stations-would come back to bite him.

17 year old boy who is bored with a new toy. He couldn't have predicted a flamboyant genius detective. But he absolutely made every choice he could to escalate. He wants a head on fight and he is really animated getting one over on someone, be it a racemixer or a detective.
@DrRyanSkelton @smugumin @Hoss Light is also a genius, it's outright been said by the author that had he not gotten the Death Note he eventually would have worked with L.
@smugumin @Hoss @DrRyanSkelton He tried to pull all of it by himself, which was also a big mistake. Even with the power of god, he was one guy against army of glowniggers. If it happened irl, some autists would probably find him within a week.
>crosscheck every dead criminal within a month
>most of them were mentioned in specific cop database, tv broadcasts
They would narrow it down to a specific region, and assuming access records to database, they would know it was either him, or his dad. And if things went as normal, cops would just murder him after learning that he was a suspect. World of anime with death gods is less brutal than our reality.
But its fun to think about the world where everyone is a faceless anonymous.

that said I am STILL mad they just skipped over why L thinks Kira is one person so early into the show but I guess he can have his detective's intuition hax
@DrRyanSkelton @Hoss You can probably handwave it as intuition or hubris
"Kira can only be an exceptionally smart bad guy that i can match wits with. I want to embarrass him on live tv"
"Kira can only be an exceptionally smart bad guy that i can match wits with. I want to embarrass him on live tv"
@DrRyanSkelton @Hoss Obfuscation is easy, Just write different varying and believable methods of death rather then just heart attacks which Light did to cultivate a legend.
