The must learn from this failure: They have to become UNCOMPROMISING when it comes to human rights, the climate crisis and the stability of the judiciary, especially when in power.

Let's hope there will be another election to put things right; given the current , this is by no means certain.

@adrianfellhauer

more important than compromising vs uncompromising, they've failed to engage with the broader public to make their case.

That's the real lesson here, captured by Harris missing chance after chance to make a solid argument for her perspective.

Democrats acted like they could just be right and waltz into office. That's just not how democracy works, though.

They need to engage with those outside their spheres. They haven't been doing that.

People are scared about how they'll keep having food and shelter and the dems were calling it "brat summer" and hoping for a "vibes election".

This was a Marie Antoinette election.

Hopefully this election helps humble the Democrats somewhat so they can nail their feet to the floor and start running campaigns in the real world again. Blowouts like last week aren't ultimately good for the people in general.

@sj_zero YES!

I've been having those Marie Antoinette vibes from the left for years, but I forgot about it.

Every time Harris would talk about some promise but have no way to actually get there, it was, Let them eat cake. Why not?

@sj_zero @volkris Except that the people that are moving into the White House right now are much more akin to Marie Antoinette: Donald Trump has not had a single workday in his entire life and aims to abolish democracy, his ministers are backwards and prejudiced against minorities, and none of them is in favour of worker's rights.

They got nothing to offer except for the permission not to use your conscience.

The same media that told you to believe all that told you Trump would never be able to be in politics ever again, he'd never run for president again, and that he'd never win.

Uncritically believing whatever the media tells you isn't healthy. Imagine if you were in Germany in 1938, what would you be telling me then if you uncritically believed what the German media told you?

@sj_zero @volkris The media didn't tell me that Trump would never be able to win again. It's just that simple.

Of course you have to be critical towards the media, especially if it tries to stir you up against the foreigners.

@adrianfellhauer

Marie Antoinette isn't known for not being part of the working class.

She's known for being out of touch with reality.

And on that note, the rest of your comment seems really out of touch with reality as well. I don't know who's been feeding you this stuff, but abolish democracy? Ministers? I think you're confusing some fiction with reality.

Or more likely, you're just putting your faith in the wrong people and they are telling you things that are just nutty.
