bitcoin is old tech
monero is old tech with tons of technical debt

need something new

@sun this really does feel like kid getting tired of old toys and asking for new ones

@sun how about a gold coin with a picture of Gawr Gura of Hololive on it?

@hj basically I want Mimblewimble codebase but with zksnark anonymity instead of coinjoin. clean modern codebase.

@sun this is why i put my life savings in BINGUS TOKEN

@apropos doesn't that exist except silver

@sun @apropos you can 3d print "gold" and "silver" coins with "silk" (shiny) filaments, they look very good

@sun being old is fine, gold is old, it's what is ABLE to be done that is what interests me.

Today there is LightningNetwork which solves a bunch of problems around medium of exchange, and some usability issues etc, what is newly being built to enable anonymous payments over lightning is super-interesting (#fedimint), it also solves problems related to security for 85% of people who are not technically minded.

So yeh, u want old tho, old=asset.

@hj @apropos I periodically buy small-run silver meme coins, I would buy a couple vtuber coins if they were available

@sun I remember a Yotsuba silver coin on Kickstarter, which got minted and delivered

@apropos I think I have one of those. most of the ones I have came from 4chan threads but a couple are from other weird places, like I have some silver dogecoin that is so rare that numismatist websites don't even know about it

@hj ^^^

@sun @hj if those things are better then they will be absorbed into the bitcoin codebase, surely, right? bitcoin does improve over time, but yeah they can't destory ppls past wealth that would be bad.

@frogzone @hj it's hard to build on top of the existing bitcoin network and code base. not because it's conservative about changes (it is, and rightly so) but just the implementation

@sun gnu taler

@condret I tried to get into Taler, I don't think it's any good.

@sun because it won't make people rich?

@condret I want to somehow issue a unit of account that is private and doesn't rely on a blockchain, Taler seems intrinsically tied to a "bank" (conceptually, not like, banks accredited by a government)

@condret I just plain can't find easy startup guides, the setup is complex and not clear to me

@condret I have benefited from crypto speculation but it's not my interest at all, I just want a system that works as an actual currency within niche communities and I am agnostic about the tech as long as it fulfills my requirements.

@sun @hj i would be surprised if someone hasn't looked at a better performing technology and done both a cost/benefit analysis toward including it in the codebase and maybe also completed mathematical proofs of its security, but yeah i think the devs are VERY resistant of introducing coins that are not compatible with older software, i think they have sort of confidence rounds where they say if eg. 90% of transactions have signalled readiness to upgrade then it it'll updgrade. Or something like that.

@sun that's fair criticism

@condret people have suggested I contact the maintainer directly as he is friendly and willing to help but as a first step I prefer to get things working on my own from reading docs rather than back and forth with someone.

@sun 10grans?

@romin I have considered converting 10grans into an L3 but it's a big effort investment.

@sun what's even a L3 now

@romin application-specific chain or protocol you build on top of an L2. it is the point where you can introduce large amounts of customization while you offload network security to the L2.

@sun @condret by "bank" do you mean a Chaumian mint?

@sun @condret You could try a mutual credit system

@Hyolobrika @condret sure but I need some kind of platform providing that

@Hyolobrika @condret apparently you don't actually need a "bank" but you need an issuer, which they call an exchange because it's assumed it's backed by something. I just haven't managed to get it working yet to experiment with it because it takes an effort investment to get it going before I even really grasp what it does or can do

@sun @condret There’s that Ripple thing that @jeffcliff likes. But I think that’s centralised. This paper may interest you. I’m not an expert on this stuff. I’m just providing links so you can DYOR.

@sun @condret why do you need a unit of account exactly?

I don't get what you're looking for but whatever it is opentransactions sounds like what you really want.
