I don't know enough about computer hardware to say with assurance but I am very confident that modern hardware is being created in such a way that modern software does not run acceptably on anything older. This is a deliberate cash grab and everyone involved should be drowned.

Apple was literally sued for this and settled.

@c It's really more a case of as hardware capabilities improve, software creators get increasingly lazy and produce more horrid bloatware.

I believe that but I've also heard that old software runs worse in many cases on new hardware which would imply that they're doing what is essentially killing backwards compatibility but for PCs.

@c I haven't run into this personally, I've been playing one game in particular for almost twenty years, Flyff, and it definitely runs better on modern hardware, especially when there are a large number of players in one area.
