XMPP is still around though

Have you not seen all the people on fedi with their details in their bio (myself included)?

I don't really see how it can "kill" anything.
>fedi has x users
>facemonster adds y users
>fedi now has x+y users
>mark yuckerberg takes those y users away
>fedi now has x users again
What have we lost exactly?
If anything, some of the y will choose to stay.

How did it with XMPP?

OK, that sucks.

It seems the problem is with the protocol though. Specifically the fact that accounts are tied to a single provider.

I can’t see how that could happen on SimpleX.

You mean P2P wouldn't have that problem?

What about a system where conversations are split into two queues, sending and receiving?

If Facebook made a SimpleX server ("proxy"), people who use it would only be using it to receive messages. People who want to send messages to them have to be able to use it without an account. And the FB useds themselves would use a different server to send messages to people not used by Facebook.

How could they "embrace and extinguish" under those circumstances?
They would have to change the protocol.

Why is everyone on xmrposter.club so fucking arrogant?
