Some districts in the UK are experimenting with an unofficial primary election which helps the voters figure out which opposition party they support has the best chance of defeating the incumbent party. This is not part of the official electoral system, but helps voters determine how to vote tactically in the official election.
It would probably be better just to have a voting system that means they don't have to vote tactically.

@Hyolobrika I agree that would be better, but local governments don't have the power to change the voting system for the real election. The interesting thing about pre-elections to aid tactical voting is that any local government can set one up and get much of the same benefit.
