Milei announces Argentina's first budget surplus in 16 years

"If the state does not spend more than it collects and does not issue (money), there is no inflation. This is not magic," the self-described "anarcho-capitalist" said

Thousands of public servants have lost their jobs.

"Don't expect a way out through public spending," Milei warned on Monday.

I saw someone post this with respect to Milei early on, and it continues to be true.

Maybe he turns out to be a charlatan in the end, but balancing a budget is by itself a huge step in the right direction.

@sj_zero @LoriQuaid Unfortunately it's too late for the US to balance the budget, we're a barista with law school loans and maxed out credit cards.

It can be done, but they're going to have to rethink what life looks like. It won't be nice, lots of people lose their gibs.

@Zettour @sj_zero I can see running a deficit to defend the homeland if it has been directly attacked, and we officially declare war. Other than that, the idea of representative democracy falls apart if representatives of one generation decide to borrow money for Ukraine (or whatever) that has to be funded by a future generation whose representatives didn't get any say in the matter.
