Doing anything on mobile is always such a pathetically bad user experience

@sun i enjoy a handful of android apps these days. they are mostly for data collection though so their UIs are naturally simple enough.

I'm honestly annoyed when the phone ever rings for any reason

@icedquinn touch keyboards suck dick

@sun mobile is basically only good for outside quick entertainment and a "god, I need x but I really don't have anything else (computer) right now"

@sun Mobile phones want to do everything for the user, annoying the power users.
Never mind companies, that even so much as orbit around mobile phones, hiring people from casinos to add casino-like behaviours into their glass slabs of crap. Don't get me started on sportsbooking.
Letting mobile developers work on things outside of mobile phones was a mistake.

@sun mobile ecosystem is specifically tailored to demoralize and dehumanize

@sun sometimes I wish smartphones didn't exist because of that

@sun mobile computing was a mistake

@sun getting so angry rn grrrrrrr

@feld i have three different adapters to use headphone with iPhone and none of them work right, at this point I’m certain it’s deliberate to force you to buy Bluetooth headphones

@feld the mechanism is so simple why would it stop working

@sun@shitposter.world @feld@friedcheese.us its annoying but tbf airpods are quite nice.

@anemone @feld buds always fall out of my ears so I have to use headphones

@sun @feld
Are you sure it's not a Bluetooth version mismatch?

@camedei456 @feld wired headphones

@sun@shitposter.world @feld@friedcheese.us i have that problem but i bought some memory foam eartips for the airpods pro and they stay in pretty well now. needless hassle but it's worth a shot if you want to try using them

@sun @anemone Okay grandpa tell us more about the icebox and how the milk was delivered to your door every day

@feld@friedcheese.us @sun@shitposter.world getting milk delivered seems cool why did they stop doing that?

@sun @anemone It's true wired headphones are better tho it's just math

@feld@friedcheese.us @sun@shitposter.world in terms of sound quality but airpods are really convinient

@sun @anemone I use the over the ears style all day they're most comfortable

@sun @anemone @feld
Have you considered in-ears?
IEMs usually have the wire going around one's auricle to prevent microphonics.

@camedei456 @anemone @feld they fall out

@sun@shitposter.world @feld@friedcheese.us one of mine is too thats but memory foam works

@feld@friedcheese.us @sun@shitposter.world i use some wired gamer senheisers for my computer but i use wireless when im out and about

@sun

My Anker USB-C dongle is ok but I haven’t used it near as much since going to iPhone and it’s not the phone’s fault

@feld

@leyonhjelm @feld I’ll try an anker next time

@sun@shitposter.world @leyonhjelm@breastmilk.club @feld@friedcheese.us i have the best luck w/ belkin for apple stuff

@sun@shitposter.world @feld@friedcheese.us no they're third party ones i bought on amazon the apple eartips didn't stay in

@anemone @leyonhjelm @feld Subynanal failed me

@sun@shitposter.world @feld@friedcheese.us i can check the brand i got but mine were for airpods pro 1 idk what you have

@sun @anemone @feld @leyonhjelm fucking piece of shit. having to use a dongle to use headphones, absolute demoralizing tomfoolery. fucking reptilians. guess what tim cook i'll force you to wear a buttplug if you want to have lunch how about that

@sun@shitposter.world @feld@friedcheese.us the only ones that ive used that stay in are the airpod pros (regular ones do not) and even then not that well until i got aftermarket tips

@sun@shitposter.world @leyonhjelm@breastmilk.club @feld@friedcheese.us theres so many bullshit chinesium brands on amazon that dont fucking work.

You can get some gamer BT that fold for traveling. They often have cheap ear cup replacements as they're expected to be repaired too.

@sun

I’ve had it for a few years but originally bought it to go with a Oneplus

@feld

@anemone @sun @leyonhjelm @feld at least all the Lightning ones only use the wired connection as a power source and still use bluetooth for audio because apple, it’s hilarious

@sun

it's like reading a newspaper through a microscope.

@sun @icedquinn This is why i use a titan pocket
Wyleh248.jpg
Wyleh248.jpg

@dcc @sun i tried to buy a titan and they wouldn't sell it to me

@dcc @icedquinn this looks nice. I miss my OG Droid

@icedquinn @sun ? Use amazon lol

Mfw apple ripped off unihertz with the new iphone

@sun @leyonhjelm @anemone @feld ugreen or anker, everything else breaks

@sun It doesn't have to be this way

@sun mnt reform style pocket computers that double as a phone when?

@icedquinn @dcc @sun
Is this company Russian? The facts that their website has only Russian and English languages, they suggest using Russian online stores and some key people have Russian names look *kinda* suspicious to me 🤨

@m0xee @dcc @sun i dunno and didn't really care. this was well before the ukraine shindig anyway.

@icedquinn @dcc @sun
It's not even about the political statement, there are reasons to stay away from Russian tech even if it's manufactures in Taiwan.
Just as Americans are often… alarmed about electronic equipment that offers security/privacy made in US — just a few days ago I was accused of being on "CIA instance"🤣(But why would a Russian person care about CIA?)

@m0xee @dcc @sun i want a phone with a keyboard. there's like 2 options.

@icedquinn @dcc @sun
In this form factor — probably yes, never dug into it, but if we're talking physical keyboard in broader sense, there is this: https://liliputing.com/phones/fxtec-pro1-x-specs/
There is Cosmo Communicator: https://www.www3.planetcom.co.uk/cosmo-communicator
I think there could be other options to choose from 🤷

@m0xee @dcc @sun i've been told the cosmo is trash

@icedquinn @dcc @sun
Can't tell, never had it. Might depend on your use cases. Besides, I expect it to be a day night difference in terms of usability when you use the Android it came with compared to when you put e.g. Ubuntu Touch on it — which I would probably do, or rather PostmarketOS even, don't see the point in having another Android device — but you might have other things in mind of course.

@m0xee @dcc @sun why cant we just have fuckin blackberry with android

thats what the unihertz basically is

@icedquinn @dcc @sun
I don't know. Its a niche market nowadays — not as profitable. I remember upper management folks adoring their Blackberries in the 2000s — it was a high profit margin market at the time, but times change and nowadays you're better off cranking out "slate" phones for the wider audience, even if you're a smaller company.
