Sanders hits back at Netanyahu: ‘It is not antisemitic to hold you accountable’ | Bernie Sanders | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/apr/27/bernie-sanders-benjamin-netanyahu-israel-gaza-war “No Mr Netanyahu, it is not antisemitic or pro-Hamas to point out that, in a little over six months, your extremist government has killed over 34,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 78,000, 70% of whom are women and children,” Sanders said.

@nedhamson1

sure would be a shame if an entire society, including the women and children, dedicated to exterminating the jews were to suffer extermination

I wish Corbyn had front-footed the Palestine issue like this when the pseudo-liberals in UK Labour - and newspapers like the Guardian - were using similarly trumped up accusations of anti-semitism to knobble his leadership.

If he had, maybe he'd still be Labour leader Maybe the UK would have the option to vote in its first economically progressive government since Thatcher?

Videos posted on social media have depicted anti-Israel protesters shouting “go back to Poland” and “go back to Belarus”, apparently at Jewish students. A congressional hearing earlier in April into a reported upsurge of antisemitism at Columbia heard allegations that Jewish students had been subjected to taunts of “F the Jews”.

Does anyone have any copies of these videos?

@Hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net People are allegedly being mean to Jewish people oh well I guess we should let them maintain a terrorist ethnosupremacist genocidal state and disband our freedom of speech!

>You oppose Israel? You must be an antisemite!

Actions speak louder than words.

Who is "them", though, Israel or Jews?

@Hyolobrika

Firstly, it's irresponsible to make claims like this without presenting the evidence yourself. Otherwise it's like me claiming you raid the graves of dead children and eat their organs, then asking if anyone has video.

Second, nobody is claiming anti-semitism doesn't exist. Of course anti-semites are going to jump on the Palestine solidarity bandwagon and try to twist anti-Zionism into anti-semitism. We do need to push back firmly and decisively against this.

But as @adiz says, that doesn't change the fact that what the crypto-fascists in charge of Israel are doing is totally beyond acceptable, and must be stopped.

@Hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net Kinda synonymous here. Can't even make a distinguishing between citizens of a state and a race/ethnic group (e.g. Chinese vs. PRC nationals) since being ethnically Jewish and being Jewish are basically two different things. I.e., identifying as Jewish is wholly voluntary and conveys a subscription to a certain ideology and belief system, whereas one could be Jewish yet not identify as such. It's like you can be white yet not be a white supremacist/reject white supremacy outright.

@adiz @Hyolobrika >i.e., identifying as Jewish is wholly voluntary and conveys a subscription to a certain ideology and belief system, whereas one could be Jewish yet not identify as such

not really; if people know you're Jewish (in an ethnic or religious sense) then you're Jewish whether you like it or not; same goes for any other ethnicity

@adiz @Hyolobrika basically my point is that ethnic groups aren't ideologies and you can't opt out of them

@genmaicha@stereophonic.space Being Jewish isn't simply like being Irish or something. The ethnicity has fused with an ideological and theological structure and prerequisites (which one can choose to eschew). @Hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net

@adiz @Hyolobrika it's definitely true that one can choose to avoid ethnonarcissistic beliefs, but that doesn't mean you're no longer part of the ethnic group

@adiz @Hyolobrika Or let the jews kinslay their semitic cousins suffering attrition and more importantly not let jews into one's nation. That is the option many people refuse out of nigger loving pro-loser grindset.

@adiz @genmaicha @Hyolobrika this is actually a false narrative that is perpetuated by religious beliefs, similar to how Muslim converts call themselves reverts. Jewish converts are considered to have "always" been apart of the people if they choose to convert and then the narrative is that they found their way back home 💀

@adiz @genmaicha @teratology @Hyolobrika i don't think muslims do that but i can absolutely believe zionists do that. solipsistic mumbo-jumbo like that is a pretty modern phenomenon and zionism is ultramodern

@WALFTEAM @adiz @Hyolobrika @genmaicha I know someone who recently converted, and bc she said she was a revert because I asked and she explained it to me, she's def not arab or grew up in islam either.

@WALFTEAM @adiz @Hyolobrika @genmaicha this isn't specific to zionism though this is a typical belief held by most sects like traditional chabad converts. which is why we should push back against the ethnoreligion narrative. if it was true they wouldn't be discriminating against their own afterall...
