China’s Great Cannon https://citizenlab.ca/2015/04/chinas-great-cannon/
The operational deployment of the Great Cannon represents a significant escalation in state-level information control: the normalization of widespread use of an attack tool to enforce censorship by weaponizing users. Specifically, the Cannon manipulates the traffic of “bystander” systems outside China, silently programming their browsers to create a massive DDoS attack.

Can everyone who had me on XMPP please add me again on SXC now that my server broke? The fact that you can switch receiving servers for a conversation with a single click makes it much more reliable than XMPP, where your provider is basically a single point of failure for all your conversations.
1. Reliable
2. Not going to ban me for stupid reasons
3. Not associated with trolling or raiding behaviour that gets *them* banned from chatrooms/defederated/etc (I don't know if servers get banned that often on XMPP but I think it was worth asking)
