@lain But then why not Mastodon/fediverse?

@anemone from people like Musk?
How?

@anemone vulnerable to what?

@anemone But then why bother making it """""'"'decentralized""""""""?

@anemone @NanoRaptor @foo my point still stands

I'm seriously considering making an account on Bluesky so I can ask people what the appeal of it is.

@foo @NanoRaptor I guess it's supposed to fit over one of those holes people have in their desks.

@WALFTEAM @lcamtuf Conspiracy theorists ≠ trolls

@lcamtuf Pirates become admirals, I guess

@nimrod is Luce the anime Mary I keep hearing about on fedi?

@jeffcliff how's things Jeff? Keeping up with the jabs?

I think there should be better ways of ensuring bad policies don't get implemented than forbidding everyone to think or speak of them in a crypto-authoritarian way. Like making sure that they don't get debated on, but only in government meetings. And not allowing assholes to have power.

The Summoned Heroine’s Prediction Markets Keep Providing Financial Services To The Demon King! — LessWrong https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/6h9p6NZ5RRFvAqWq5/the-summoned-heroine-s-prediction-markets-keep-providing

The Heroine ignored this. “The markets . . . did something markets are supposed to. They kept you in power. They made it so the sociopath at the top of the pyramid was the kind that’s clever and myopic and numerate and invested in the status quo. Not some crazed, bloodthirsty gloryhound; not someone who’d burn the world for a doomed ambition; not someone who destroys by mistake, or just for the sake of it. And I’ve faced a lot of your potential replacements in battle, so I know they’d have been worse.”

That’s an interesting value judgement.

As for child labour in particular, though, I think some forms of that are okay, like children helping their parents with their work on, say, a homestead or something like that.
But not all adult jobs are suitable for children ofc. For example, coal mining, or factory work.

@condret @mitchconner Sounds like a good argument against democracy to me. The narrow sense of everyone voting on how your society works, not the broad sense of civil liberties.
