Advocate for freedom and tolerance even if you say things I do not like

Adversary of Fediblock

Accept that I'll probably say something you don't like and I'll give you the same benefit, and maybe we can find some truth about the world.

Ah... Is the Alliteration clever or stupid? Don't answer that, I sort of know the answer already...

My #pinephone came in and I wrote a huge write-up my first impressions. Something happened and it's gone now.

Bottom line is that first impressions were reasonably good, but there was a lot of crashing and a lot of things just don't work out of the box. It's an alpha product, but I think that it's a lot further down the line than I would have expected. Depending on the amount of support that plasma mobile gets, we could be looking at a serious contender in a couple of years.

Next step for me is to try to load up some other operating systems to see what's out there. I'm kind of hoping to find something that maybe is a little bit jankier but give me more of the basic power that you get with running a full Linux distribution.

@Kane How is that a reset?

@Breaking911 I guess why not? It's obvious that next time interest rates normalize the US will be defaulting on their debts anyway, why not take investors for all they're worth in the meantime?

@wjmaggos It's only a matter of time before megacorps change their views, then very quickly the hunter can become the hunted. Everyone should be striving to censorship-proof their speech online.

@solene By definition if it isn't automated then you have to touch it...

@alex

Earlier in my life, I built a computing concept consisting of three computers. Recently I added a fourth.

First is a simple handheld computing device like a phone or an (at the time) ipod touch.

Next is something that is portable and replacable like a netbook, chromebook, or tablet.

Next up is a fully powered computer you'd probably keep at home, either a desktop replacement laptop or a full fledged desktop PC.

The last one is new, but I now think everyone should have a server. For the people whose Internet plans make it practical you can have an internet server that runs federated services. For those who don't have good internet plans at least you can have a local NAS to store your own files on at least a RAID-1 drive.

Thing is, at the netbook/tablet level, I never really thought a tablet was a contender. You pay about as much for a computer, but the tablet can't do as much, is less robust, and doesn't have a working keyboard. I've got a bunch because I thought maybe the problem is that I just wasn't doing the tablet thing right, but I seem to be mistaken because I always prefer something with a keyboard or something much smaller that I can tuck away when I'm not using it.

For so many projects: Do you know why you haven't gotten a community together? It's because your installation instructions suck and nobody can figure out to run your project!

I know that OSS developers don't owe anyone anything, but there's benefits to being accessible!

@djsumdog @elhammond If it's a "fact checker" then they're probably liars being paid by political parties to push an agenda.

The number of times I've seen these bastards say something is false in the headline then admit it's true in the article is insane.

@Breaking911 I don't see what the big deal is. Let them run their audit.

Frankly, we have a name for presidents who won by cheating that was uncovered later: "President". Even if they find something, it'll be a moral victory, not an actual victory.

@TheFreeThoughtProject It's the truth that you shouldn't drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Why not just tell the truth? Why make up a bunch of bullshit? When you lie to kids they just learn they can't trust what you say!

@graf I'm mildly retarded and working off of parts scavenged from a roadside sign. Nextcloud, Pleroma, Peertube, XMPP, Matrix using conduit, all of these were reasonably simple. There are a bunch of others I tried that aren't easy at all. Excellent and factually accurate instructions on loading up an instance are worth their weight in gold.

@DeveloperMemes oh shit, needs another equals sign.

@joerebelloharley @benk For me, the fundamental thing is just "are the sites I visit going to work?"

Unfortunately, a lot of the backwards compatibility of stuff has been broken in the past decade or so.

@joerebelloharley @benk It seems like the lack of a fully standards compliant web browser could be a major limiting factor for a daily driver.

@MechaSilvio "Have you considered working as hard and as long as men, making all the sacrifices that men make for career, that you be wiling to do dirty, demeaning, disgusting jobs?"

"naw, this is clearly a man problem"

I'm an advocate for removing barriers, but personal choice is a thing, and if people choose not to walking down a certain path then it isn't anyone else's job to force them down a path they don't want to walk down.

@jeffcliff Most of them should try running for the position of a wood chipper.

@metokurist Look at the Karen Karen over here.
