Ok, this is a teaching moment.
I made a joking comment. I do it a lot. A lot of people do it a lot. Sometimes they're smart comments, sometimes they're dumb comments, that's life. Even dumb people sometimes make smart comments and smart people make dumb comments sometimes.
You dummies are making it into this big thing.
So here's the very simple thing to do: Go "that's stupid" and go on with your day. All this could have been avoided if you all just did that.
You don't need to be jerks, you don't need to start barking commands or insults, you just need to accept that there's all kinds of people out there on this big wide fediverse seeing things and commenting and some saying smart things and some saying dumb things and you don't need to control every single post that goes into or out of it.

@jeffcliff @HOLOCAUST I'll grant you that point.
He's speaking the words someone needs to say right now, but I've known forever that words and actions are different and you can't know for sure how someone will govern until they get into office. It's entirely possible that all this "just slightly less than the libertarian party" fades into nothing the moment it looks like they get an ounce of power.

@jeffcliff @HOLOCAUST You kidding? The borders are already open. The lines are hours long. We're still somewhat locked down and the floodgates are open. Once again, the people who cross the border are more important than the citizens, and there's going to be a fourth wave, and a fifth wave, and a sixth wave, and it's never going to end because that way they can sell our grandchildren, and our great grandchildren, and our great great grandchildren into slavery for our comfortable prison.
Maxime is just some guy, and every one of us "just some guys" have some basic human rights. It seems that in the crisis of the moment we're forgetting that, and as 9/11 taught us, once we give those basic human rights up, there's a good chance we never get them back.

@jeffcliff @HOLOCAUST Depends on what you think the job of government is.
Do you think it's the job of government to protect the people, or do you think it's the job of government to protect the rights of the people?
Myself, I think it's the latter. If you're protecting people's lives by removing their fundamental human rights, then those lives are markedly less valuable thereby. What's the point of even living if they're just selling your kids into slavery to imprison you in your own home forever?

@RustyCrab @deprecated That solves the problem. Most guys only need 15 minutes.
We need dollhouse phil on the case.

@DennisCampbel16 @Give_Me_Liberty @REX It would be hilarious if they won and they turned out to be anti-american too
@Mitsu never.

There have been a lot of people saying that it wouldn't end well for the past 10 years. There's absolutely no reason that Toronto deserves house prices greater than a million dollars, and especially no reason why Vancouver deserves house prices greater than $2 million dollars. It's absurd, and every government is taking actions to specifically keep the gravy train rolling.

@Jkid Fuck. Yes.
@TheFreeThoughtProject Although the exact conclusions we come to afterwards aren't exactly the same, I agree with this completely.
@graf @parker @SchizoZoomer I love nextcloud. It was my first big self-hosted service, and from there I fell into all the other services I host because it's so beautiful not asking some megacorp for permission.
@parker @graf @SchizoZoomer It's a big gamble until you see the front. I don't care how nice her ass is if she's got a literal wasp head with some blonde hair on top.
@graf @SchizoZoomer @parker Every time I see a code of conduct I'm out unless it's a *really* reasonable one.
Codes of conduct are almost universally written as a bullet that will be used to harm people.
That's why my FBXL code of conduct is one line and inherently self limiting.

@djsumdog @Main_Tomato @Wetrix A quote from a big article I'm writing that I think is relevant:
Look around you, everything that you have is a monument to self control.
The clothes on your back are the result of centuries of research and development, the result of centuries of very smart people dedicating themselves to the study of fabric and cloth and thread. And somewhere there is somebody who instead of spending their time at home playing video games spend their entire day making shirts or making pants or making socks. Every single one of these takes huge amounts of self-control. The walls around you are covered in paint that is the result of centuries of research and development. The walls themselves are probably covered in a space age material, and that material likely involves highly processed wood fiber combined with highly processed mineral deposits. Somebody needed to gather the Raw materials. Somebody else needed to process the raw materials. Somebody needed to transfer all these materials to somewhere near where you live. Someone else needed to sell the materials. Somebody else needed to take those materials and turn them into the walls that you're staring at right now. I could go on and on and on but every single thing that you're looking at represents self control. Instead of doing something fun, they decided to go to work and do something that made your world a better place. This book that you're reading right now, this is an example of self control. I love video games. And I really don't mind getting drunk or getting high either. There are a lot of things that I could be doing that would just be instantly fun. Instead of doing those fun things, I have spent hours every weekend for months putting together these essays.
Your entire world is built and maintained by people exercising self control.

@MadeInUSAReview It's so sad that a bunch of citydwelling nimbyists insist on fighting to end manufacturing.
They have no idea where their lives come from.
