There's a lot of times when cops didn't do anything wrong. Body cams are beginning to prove that. On the other hand, sometimes they do terrible things, and when they do they should be punished more than the general public because they ought to know better, not less.

I can see both sides of this discussion.
Problem isn't necessarily the ideology, but the fact that it attracts psychopaths who want to use the ideology and it's acceptance to control others and the consequences of people trying to use the ideology to control others. It wasn't any good when the right did it, it sucks now that the left does it, and if the right starts doing it again, that's not an improvement.
As for the authoritarian/libertarian divide on fediverse (and that's what it is -- gab defederated everyone after all and they're not a lefty site), to me that's not a bug, it's a feature. If those guys over there can't be tolerant of other viewpoints, if they can't stand seeing a thought that doesn't adhere to their cult, then they should be allowed to go be whoever they want over there in their little bubble and the rest of us who value diversity of opinions can hang out over here. I'd much prefer a situation where different communities federate and moderate as they please over a situation where some overmind comes in and decides for us what everyone SHALL do under threat. The fascists leave the rest of us alone so they can live with a boot on their neck just like they want, we leave them alone.
