If nation-state levels of resources are to be directed at software, it makes sense for those resources to be directed at software that then becomes a public good.
Unless such states want to buy billions of dollars of software from me, then we should definitely go with making me unspeakably rich for no good reason. Nobody else though.

I often have a recurring dream where for some reason I'm back in college (in a school I've never been to before), and I don't have a copy of my schedule, so I'm wandering around these huge hallways trying to figure out where the hell I'm supposed to be.
Then I wake up and remind myself that I graduated 15 years ago and have no reason to worry about it.
I think the dream is really about uncertainty. I've been making a lot of the right calls in the past few years, and I've been ok, but it sure feels scary seeing the things I've had to make calls to protect myself from. There's inflation, there's rising interest rates, there's a spectre of global famine, there's the psychotic woke cult and their political allies. It's a scary world out there, and sometimes it feels like you're late for class and don't know which room it's in...

I had a bad experience with the passport office so I was going to be snippy and be like "you dealing with these guys too?" But then it turned out to re dealing with the exact same garbage bureaucrats.
Unironically sorry. It's horrid and we should send all these bureaucrats on a rocket ship into outer space before blowing out the airlock.

You know, I'm now on week 3 of trying to get my passport.
The federal government wants to have every single piece of information about every single piece of my life, but they can't figure out who I am when I'm standing in front of them with a birth certificate and a driver's license.
Feel like these guys are trying to run marathons before they've learned how to breathe using lungs.

It's well established that when the labor pool shrinks, working conditions improve because employers end up competing for fewer workers. Stuff like the black death or large wars often have worker conditions and wages considerably improve on the other side.
That's why the shrinking worker population is so scary to the powers that be, despite the fact that their other plans essentially require it.

The most important thing in a nuclear disaster is to make sure you're not doing anything that will make you look like a total loser. The last thing you want is to leave a burn on the pavement of you looking like you're crying like a little girl or something.
Believe it or not the construction of your house can help a lot with that. Because my house is basically a Faraday cage, my neighbor's internet doesn't interact with mine so although it's annoying that I can't get internet in my front yard or backyard without extenders, I basically get full pull from whatever wireless networking I have within the house, and there isn't a bunch of congestion or anything to make things unstable.
The reason that I mentioned the particular brand is that I have had a lot of luck with them at the same time that I've had less luck with other brands. I absolutely love dd-wrt, but even using one of the best D-Link routers you can get that will still run it, it can be pretty Hit or Miss sometimes.

I'm at a point now where my internet's only 100 megabits, so having multiple gigabits of throughput and my house is basically a faraday cage so my neighbor's Wi-Fi doesn't interfere with mine, the stability and performance of my Wi-Fi is comparable to wired. Actually faster since my router at best only supports 1 GB on wired.
I'll vote for the performance of my tp-link routers. I started off with wireless n, then eventually moved up to Wi-Fi 5, and now I've got a Wi-Fi 6 router. I think everyone's had to deal at some point with rotors that technically support a certain speed but will start to seize up and lock up if you actually try to operate them at that speed, but I've had nothing but successes with my TP Link routers, and I've also noticed that they keep the firmware fairly well up to date.
Of course now that I've said that, it's going to turn out that those routers are filled with Chinese spyware or something.

You get to a certain point where your in-home Wi-Fi is faster than anything that you can connect to it.
His career as a college professor ended, he was painted as the devil and a pariah, he still has groups of angry psychopaths go around wherever he goes to protest his existence.
They want him dead and buried. The moment it looks like he's doing anything they try to end him. They protest wherever he talks. They protested his books. They send death threats and threats of violence and property damage.
So he did lose everything, but like a lot of people who are canceled, he built something new from the ashes. Thankfully they're not as strong as they think. Like the religious right, people are getting sick of their shit.

Total equality would totally work if we didn't need anyone to accomplish anything. If we were animals at the zoo, and a benevolent superspecies took care of us and catered to our every whim, we should all be equal. Unfortunately, the benevolent superspecies that takes care of us is us.
