"what happened when I was forced to see what people actually think of me because I couldn't get the prince of Saudi Arabia to bend my enemies for me"
Not to mention, you don't get paid economic growth. You get paid what you get paid.
The richest people in the world would be more than happy to see economic growth continue to increase at the cost of the worker, because they do get paid in terms of the amount of stuff going on in the economy.
But history tells us a lesson, and that is when the number of workers starts to decline the working conditions of the common Man improve. That happened after the world wars, that happened after the black death. And if it can happen for a nice reason like everyone got old and died surrounded by family, that's probably a lot nicer than it happening because of world wars or Continental plagues.

I don't even blame him. If I spent 44 billion dollars on anything I would be treading like a super spy. "Ohshitohshitohshitohshit I'm gonna break it"
So far, I'm kind of finding that a lot of little servers scales way better. After all, only the people who are communicating with each other end up communicating with each other, so even though there may be a massive amount of traffic overall, individual instances don't see but a fraction of that because it has nothing to do with them.
I mean, my instance is hosted on parts scavenged from a roadside sign.

Forget about the girl, how about the institution that would invite someone like that on?
"Higher learning"? Nein danke

Absolutely. That's the core of the liberal (in the sense of liberty) ideal in my view, that if everyone leaves each other alone then it doesn't matter nearly as much who is in charge.
I just figure he's a shyster. A modern-day P. T. Barnum.
You're right though, as long as you don't take any of it too seriously it's entertaining to watch.

Sort of interesting, Twitter was always a totalitarian hellscape. There's a reason why I deleted my account 5 years ago. The only thing that's changed is the authoritarian leader at the head of it now disagrees with the people that the leadership previously agreed with.
A $10,000 question should be: given a choice between a decentralized distributed censorship resistant platform and an incredibly centralized incredibly expensive big Tech alternative, why would anyone choose the former, even if the big Tech oligarch at the middle of it happens to agree with you this week?

Would it be awesome if they did that for us, just give us one or two instances that we can all block?
I'm totally against blocking, but if we're talking about an instance with nothing but journalists on it? Well I'm still not going to do it because I'm lazy and as per the TOS of the site I'm not your dad, but in principle I can make an exception.

I do have to admit, there's a lot in the skilled trades that needs to be fixed.
Lots of kids who want to get into the skilled trades can't until they pay for their own degree just to get on the radar to get one of the infinitesimal number of apprenticeships. The others who get them are the ones who have family working for the company, or people who are politically beneficial to get an opportunity.
It all comes down to shortsighted companies. They want to have great tradesmen, but they don't want to have to make them.

I finally put batteries in the laptop toy I bought for my son.
I love it, the cover says "CAT The trump product, everyone likes"
But after putting the batteries in, it turns out it's a veeeery chinese toy. Not sure it's going to be what I'm looking for.

The focus on tax increases or tax cuts is imo a distraction from the policies that actually create inequality.
Let's say that Bob and Jane each own their own shoe stores, but Bob gets special legislation that has the government pay 90% of his costs and provide 90% of his profits. At that point, you can tax Bob 50% and Jane 0%, it doesn't matter because Bob's shoe store is by far a net tax consumer and Jane's store is likely a net tax provider. Then Bob gets half of Jane's product line banned for arbitrary reasons. You can tax bob 75% and Jane 0%, it doesn't matter because Jane's business has a huge hurdle Bob's doesn't. Then make it so Bob can borrow billions of dollars basically for free and Jane needs to get normal loans. You can tax Bob 95% and Jane 0%, it doesn't matter because Bob is so far ahead Jane can never succeed.
Stuff like the above happens every day, and no political ideology has a monopoly on supporting them.

Even if I disagree with them, the more people (and the more people who have big audiences) who join the fediverse, the better.
Fedi is freedom, and freedom is awesome. People I don't like should be here as well as people I like, and we should all be doing our little part to make this free and open source platform the top tier choice it has every reason to be.
The big question is whether the big names are going to be able to deal with a decentralized platform they can't control using their hollywood clout.

Fediverse Uber Alles!!!
But people who can't handle freedom should head back to Facebook to live in their VR pod discussing whatever the federal government has deemed it acceptable to talk about this week.

The fediverse is non-algorithmic. This means it becomes what you make it.
Early on I found I ended up unfollowing some people I otherwise wouldn't have minded following because they posted like 400 times a day and my timeline was entirely filled with their posts.
