Advocate for freedom and tolerance even if you say things I do not like

Adversary of Fediblock

Accept that I'll probably say something you don't like and I'll give you the same benefit, and maybe we can find some truth about the world.

Ah... Is the Alliteration clever or stupid? Don't answer that, I sort of know the answer already...

It's going to be really interesting over the next 5 years, a lot of Western countries have been relying on debt to a dramatically unhealthy degree, apparently under the idea that rates can never rise.

With rates rising, debt maintenance costs are going to become significant, and a lot of basic services are going to have to get pared back since going deeper into debt is not going to stay an option. As long as inflation remains a potential issue, there's a very real risk of bonds going no-bid.

It means a lot of things people have taken for granted are going to go away.

Because these things move so slowly, people have assumed that because we have had monetary and fiscal policy behave in a certain way since the 2001 recession and dramatically increase at the 2008 recession, that can never change. problem is that things can change, and when they do you enter a new era that completely changes the assumptions, and you enter this new era with all the excellent work and all of the mistakes that you took with you from the last.

Greenwald is one of the good ones imo

Omf 2047 is still one of my favorite fighting games. Especially the career mode.

It's been a blast being on the real internet again powered by FOSS and Untroubled by monthly reports.

I know it's a bit tough setting up postgresql and the right version of elixir, but it's not that bad after that.

Someone once called politics "sports for pretentious people" so maybe it fits a lot?

"In...2024 we're planning....to use AI....and SpaceX Technology.... To give our top creators.... 150% of ad income...."

This February, I was called a Racist Sexist Misogynistic Homophobic Transphobic American Russian for supporting a group asking my government to start respecting human rights, and the media went with it without any delay.

So yeah, let's just say they're not high on the list of trusted sources.

Honestly, I aint even mad at people for saying horrible things to journalists.

They've been "journalists" like the writers for der strumer or pravda have been journalists. They're liars who actively try to destroy people's basic human rights. We've all watched them spew hate as the establishment has ordered them to for years.

I wouldn't want them nearby any more than I'd want a nazi brownshirt nearby.

Yeah, and the other neat thing is that I don't think they understand that "mastodon" isn't a platform like twitter, so even if someone is blocked by them, the rest of the world doesn't know or care. Seeing a bunch of admins who regularly say gamer words responding to reports by journalists of gamer words is hilarious.

My Christmas lights went up like 3 years ago and I like them. They're not coming down.

It's a hissy fit.

These people don't want to live in a libre communications network, it'd kill them. They require the establishment to enforce their message or their entire world collapses under the weight of reality.

Mea culpa then. I was thinking of the phrase "there's a sucker born every minute" attributed to him when I said it.

how to destroy the fediverse
There's a serious threat of all these corpos who crave to control everything on earth coming in and going "nice distributed social network you got here!"

If the corpos wanted to, they could destroy the fediverse in two ways:
First, they could embrace, extend, extinguish. Second, a libel campaign to pressure companies or governments into just destroying all of our basic human rights in ways that effectively end the fediverse.

I love seeing new users on the fediverse whether they're people I like or not, but the inrush of silver spoon corpos rushing away from Twitter scares me.

"a person who is professionally unscrupulous"

Sorta fits the bill. He's accomplished some stuff, but he comes in and pretends he's 1-2 years away from paradigm changing stuff that never arrives because it's science fiction. He's built his entire fortune on practices that are probably about to get him in a lot more trouble as he makes more enemies in Washington...

Can you imagine people being so self-centered that they'd look at an entire network of websites that have been running for years with millions of cumulative users and go "I just arrived, this is clearly a honeypot meant to attack me"

"are you a far left liberal who is gay and thinks that they might be trans? Well let me tell you a great job for you. We're going to go to the Middle East and we're going to kill a lot of brown people for their oil"

I have no idea why recruitment is down 25%...

The trouble with the government monopoly is that there's no incentive to do a good job. They have no reason to fight for the workers because the workers have to pay their union dues either way. They have no reason to provide a good service for employers because they've established their Monopoly on labor and it's protected by the government. In the end it just kind of ends up being a rent seeking bureaucracy.

To give the devil his due, every once in awhile you end up with a government monopoly that's really good, and so I guarantee you that there are examples of good unions out there. The thing is, the incentives run completely counter to that.

Sad but true. The end of this economic cycle paired with the fact that governments can't keep it going by just printing more money at this point means that a lot of the companies that were benefiting the most from the lowest interest rates in the history of the world are going to benefit a lot less.

Uh oh!
