I thought it was interesting how early rock and roll has a lot in common with some African tribal music. Unfortunately, the question I can't answer is whether the tribal music was influenced by Rock and Roll to make it saleable as something you can record and get attention and money for, or if it's the other way around and rock and roll was influenced by tribal music through r&b.
Soapbox utilizing its own backend has supported full text search and quote posting since 2021 according to a news post I found, and I recall having those options for a long time on my instance.
Friendica has had full text search and "quote share" since at least 2020, judging from notes from the 2020 release talking about improving full text search and a bug report from 2020 about someone having issues with quote share.

Considering that we know what they do to wrong thinkers, how could you possibly believe anything that's written in any of those journals anyway?
There were published studies showing that cigarettes didn't cause cancer because the cigarette companies were pushing the needle for their own benefit. Given the biggest power and money grab in the history of the world, this particular lobby is a lot stronger than the cigarette companies.

What a load of crap.
The fediverse and nostr have some legitimacy as decentralized platforms. Bluesky has none.

Imagine paying $8/mo and not even getting rid of all the ads.
Not to be a shill for the fediverse, but I'm pretty sure you can host an instance for $8/mo and not only are you not gonna get ads, you're the site operator.

A lot of stuff seemed to flip on its head really quickly. I don't know how a of the people who supported things in 2008 support the same party in 2023.
It's not a popular view, but youtube is the last Google product I routinely use, and I started paying for youtube premium. At least this way I'm the customer and not the product. Heck, if someone gets demonetized, youtube premium income doesn't go anywhere because it has nothing to do with ad revenue.
You're absolutely right that most of the things being discussed in the mastodon space are already built. Search and quote posts are both controversial, but also both old news on a number of fediverse platforms.
You guys ever have it where you know full well you're home and you get one of those delivery tags on your door: "Sorry, we tried to deliver the package but you just weren't home!"

I mean... They can't. They're breaking the law when they do.
And the Internet is getting more buttoned down by the day. It's going to come that day where you have to follow copyright laws, and then it's all over.

Disney is a particularly good example of the benefits of a robust public domain: They made much of their fortune on derivative works of public domain works.
Disney didn't create Snow white, Pinocchio, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, The story Sleeping Beauty was based on, the little mermaid, Alladin's wonderful lamp, the hunchback of notre dame, or Hercules. They took works that were in the public domain and created new works based on those stories that were massively popular in their own right.
One of the reasons the Internet is so vibrant and creative compared to the establishment media is that it isn't really following the rules, so it takes content and remixes it or reimagines it and comes up with all kinds of completely new stuff. There's entire communities and subcommunities and sub-subcommunities doing that sort of thing, and if copyright were being properly applied then it would all immediately disappear.
Meanwhile, the establishment wallows in the one hundredth remake of Superman's origin story! We've got the copyright until 2033, might as well make the most of it!
(Turns out it wasn't life + 50 years, it was life + 70 years for works created after 1978 since changes to the copyright act made in 1998 which expanded the term from life + 50 years)
