You could spend all day reading/watching the mainstream media and come away less informed than when you started, or you could just reading a few threads like this if you wanted to actually get an honest analysis of things..

They hate the fan base. The fan base is a basket of deplorable to these people.
So they take the thing, and they try and twist it, and shape it into something they align with. And if they kill it in the process, that's OK, because they hated it to start with. Making more money would have been fine, but destroying the thing is fine, because they hate the fans, and they hate you.
