I think they do get it. The destruction of culture takes time, and they are playing the long game. Yes, they didn't expect Trump's oversized influence.
But you know who really doesn't get it?
The GOP.
They were dragged into winning against their will by Trump. They are afraid of real power. The Democrats crave it.
The Republican party would love to return to the party of George Bush. They wanted to give voters Jeb Bush and Romney. They are Democrat lite. They just want to be liked. Liked by the media. Liked by Democrats.

They will fight the Trump administration quietly in backroom deals.
