This whole AI Datacenter Craze in America has got to be one of the biggest Let Them Eat Cake moments in history.
Here you've got an economy where everyone is struggling, everyone's on the edge - or fallen off. Nobody can buy a house anymore, nobody can start a family.
Everybody knows what ram costs, what GPUs cost, etc...
And then you've got the elites who are like "SHOULD WE BUILD ONE NEW DATA CENTER OR TEN?!?!"
And they're able to just wave a magic wand and conjure so much money that they can have enough GPUs to actually stress the electricity grid... And then when they can't get grid power, they just wave the wand again and conjure enough money to buy tanker loads of diesel fuel to run everything on generators.
I'm not that much of a socialist, but you can't have a society where The Average Person is on the edge of desperation while a couple of guys get to just piss hundreds of billions of dollars on hobby projects.

Think about it this way:
1. You press the blue button, you die (you were gonna eventually die anyway)
2. You press the red button:
Every high trust person dies
Every innocent, kind person dies
Every autistic test control officer working for a "decent but not great" salary at every little water department, or power plant, or phone company... all dead.
Whose left? Politicians, scam artists, thieves.
And they all know they're scum, and they know you're scum, and you know they're scum.
Nobody's gonna run the water department, nobody's gonna keep the electricity on, nobody's gonna actually police the streets or maintain justice. All of those people are dead.
It's just you and one great big global South Africa. Fuck that, I choose death.

Is this what balkanization is like?
Because between this and Virginia, this feels like accelerated balkanization..

Reminds me of when this kid was fired for daring to question the beauty of NYC's vibrant "bodega" culture..

@PNS Women are biologically wired to make children not rule with authority.
I am willing to bet most legal systems in Western countries are 80% female.
It's a lazy job for power hungry condescending people.
A team at Stanford and Arc Institute fed a language model a DNA sequence and asked it to write a new virus.
It wrote hundreds of them. 16 worked.
One of them used a DNA packaging protein that doesn't exist in any known organism on Earth.
That's a good point - though in this case it's not *entirely* a non-argument. "You are predisposed to believe X because it makes you feel better about Y" is valid as supporting evidence, but they need to also make the case that believing X is in fact irrational.
We never had slavery in Canada. What a fucking joke.
Awww he was lonely from blackness.
