re: Discord alternatives
@craigmaloney There's some good bridges out there, so you could conceivably provide access to all 3: XMPP, Matrix, and Discord, and let people use the one they want to access one common room. I'm just waiting for Matrix Conduit to hit 1.0 then I intend to try doing this on one of the programming chat rooms I frequent.

re: Discord alternatives
@craigmaloney I don't really know what you mean. Element is about as simple as you're going to get, I'd argue in a lot of ways it's more straightforward than discord.

re: Discord alternatives
@craigmaloney https://app.element.io

It's a web app and also an app for iOS or Android. Really polished.

re: Discord alternatives
@craigmaloney you press the "create account" button.

re: Discord alternatives
@craigmaloney

There's nobody sitting over your shoulder telling you how to create a youtube account or a google account or a facebook account or a twitter account.

re: Discord alternatives
@craigmaloney

That sort of thing comes organically out of a growing community. It isn't like Facebook went out and said "oh, we better train people to show grandma facebook", people just went out and did it.

The way you're putting it makes it sound like it's some inorganic thing a project creates. All my closest contacts are on my pleroma instance and my xmpp server. I can't do anything about your contacts.

re: Discord alternatives
@craigmaloney I've contributed more than most to supporting people who want to get started with open source projects over the years. My room is clean.
