@gbrnt Odd, fusing on the neutral side is considered a violation of the electrical code in most places, because if the fuse blows all your wiring is hot and dangerous.

I'd be a bit wary with recommending any course of action without going through the design of the meter itself. Besides fusing the hot, you also want to switch the hot and a bunch of other things, so even if it's wrong you don't want to make changes without making sure first you're not causing other worse problems.
