Look, we all need a reality check: Big business isn't capitalism. Anyone who has ever worked for a fortune 500 knows this. There's tons of people whose only job is to be part of a useless human machine. There's people whose job is solely to make sure wimps feelings aren't hurt. There's people whose job is solely to make the company look like they're not an uncaring automaton. there's people whose job is solely to shmooze with politicians. There's people whose job is solely to get together with 30 other overpaid losers to pretend they're going to lead the one guy on the front line actually getting shit done.

Jobs like this aren't business jobs, they're party jobs. The CCP likes this sort of thing.

I heard a fantastic argument that the structure of the corporation means they can grow forever. They essentially have sovereign immunity because the people working for them are fairly well protected by law and the owners are well protected by law. If owners had to take responsibility when a company did something cataclysmic, then companies would stay smaller and compete with each other while avoiding undue risks because the owners don't want to be begging in the street. As it is, nobody is responsible for anything. A bunch of people have a little piece of their investments drop.

Besides that, many of the biggest businesses are explicitly protected. Banks can make stupid risks and we pay for it, for example.
