I'm definitely worried about the same. A lot of these blue checks are used to being in charge. I don't want them to come in and start making demands -- it's a decentralized system, we don't owe them anything.

They're the ones who created the authoritarian system they're fleeing because someone they don't like is in charge. If they want authoritarianism with someone they like in charge, they shouldn't bother leaving big tech.

The reason I'm worried is that things are only so decentralized. We rely on common services such as DNS or ISPs, and if the authoritarian press decides to they can break our toys shockingly easily. We've seen it.

If everyone follows the current laws of physics and doesn't do anything like try to repeal the law of gravity though, I agree -- The federated nature of everything ought to mean the people who don't like each other can be part of the same system without having to interact at all which is pretty cool.

The one thing they don't realize is that those trusted services are trusted because they've been dependable. Once they cannot be relied upon, new systems will be put into place.

At the extreme end, it might even be possible to create something ISPs can't block, though it won't be so easy anymore.
