I've been reflecting on that a lot lately. Big Tech will specifically show you stuff that has nothing to do with you because it knows it'll "drive engagement", but generally speaking here you're going to find the stuff you follow and the stuff that the people who follow you engage with. Don't want a certain thing? Just stay away from that stuff. Maybe the people you follow might engage sometimes with it in which case you ignore it, but for the most part you'll find yourself in a place you're ok with being in.
I was telling a story recently about Facebook before I deleted my account. It knows I like pretty girls, and it knows I don't use the app much, so it would show me people I have absolutely nothing to do with, these pretty girls, and it would be like "Oh, you know this girl, right? Connect with her now!" -- That's the sort of scummy shit big tech will do to keep you coming back.
