Near miss head on motor vehicle collision
I feel lucky that I learned my lesson early on.

Remember those keyboard phones a long time ago? I got one when I was dating and I'd occasionally look at a text while driving long haul road trips. One day, I was looking at a text from a girl along a long stretch of straight road, and suddenly I realised I was on the shoulder. So I straightened out. And this happened a couple times and then I realised the truth: I thought I was just looking at my phone for a second, but it was a long time, and taking your eyes off the road for a long time is suicidal. Today, phone stays in my pocket unless it's acting as a GPS. I can wait until I'm not driving.

Drives the wife nuts haha

I can understand people think they're looking for just a fraction of a second like I did, but once they've been informed that they're mistaken (and I suspect anyone still doing it has had experiences informing them that they're mistaken) then it's not a mistaken perception but an active choice.
