Perfect example of the trouble patents are having.

Storing an address and credit card number so you can order things immediately is an obvious thing to any normal practitioner of the trade. The fact that someone could get a patent on such a thing is absurd on the face of it.

If there's one reason to support the abolition of patents, it's that.

I agree with you. While I think both patents and copyrights need to be dramatically overhauled, I've argued before that it's really important for them to exist in order to promote science and the useful arts and that if we get rid of them then we'll see art and engineering reduced considerably in scope because there'll be no carrot to put the work in to create it.

People can point to Mozart and Beethoven and Leonardo Da Vinci, but that wasn't really meant for the common man. A lot of stuff that was created was lost forever in some wealthy patrons villa.
