When the common watermelon reaches adulthood, it takes the long and dangerous journey back to the body of water it was born in to find a mate, produce seeds and die.
The summer solstice usually marks the beginning of this great migration, also prompting the watermelon fishermen to take their places on the banks of streams and rivers, where they hope to catch as many unlucky melons as possible in those few hours of frantic activity.
