I've become a dad pretty late in life. Before he was born, all I had to look forward to was retirement and death. Now I have the future of my bloodline and watching my son grow up to look forward to.

Humans are too clever to happily eat and drink and watch TV for 100 years and die without ever having accomplished anything along the way.

I see what you're saying, I think I said what I said in the way I said because the two things aren't really equivalent.

I've got lots of hobbies too, and did before our little one was imagined. It's not the same as the existential fulfilment I get from being a parent.
