Even though it doesn't fully support every feature, Matrix Conduit is so lightweight I can't justify using even Matrix Dendrite, so I'd recommend people look at it at least as an option. Just keep the new signups off and create new users individually or you'll end up a nest of bots.
Many IRC rooms on liberachat are mirrored on Matrix which is really nice. I used to love IRC, but I don't have just one base of operations anymore where I can have an IRC client sitting open, so having element running on a few devices and I can interact when I have a few minutes is really nice.
