@Godcast The research you mentioned on liberals mainly valuing harm/fairness originated from Haidt. The primary question that matters to them is "Who is it hurting?" so they act like they can turn ethical issues into simple math problems.
Conservatives recognize morality as something far more complex, and take more other factors into account.
Libertarians are a funny one because they're what you get when you take conservatives and remove their disgust response. I believe that's actually where all this new weird shit is coming from. Disgust hasn't helped our survival much in the last century, so with no selective pressure to keep it high, many have started to mutate weaker disgust with no ill effects yet. Healthy instincts are literally being bred out of the species.

To overcome fear to do the right thing is different than to disregard fear entirely.
