I made a post about the Chinese emperor in 25ad yesterday, a guy named wang mang. The way he got into power almost exclusively by virtue signaling, and once in power implemented a bunch of purely ideological policies based on a popular but half-baked political theory killing 10 million people I think has direct relevance to today.
10 million people in the year 25 is I think more people than existed on Earth at that point.
