I can't help but read that definition and think it's an instinct meant to ensure you play with your children.
Physically playing with babies early on including some level of rough play is extremely positive for them, so the instinct to squeeze and bite without the intention to harm seems like it would facilitate that if you have a parent who intellectually has no idea how to be a parent and instead must rely solely on instinct.
