Does that mean that if the Chinese stopped dumping our waste (which recycling companies shipped to them) into the oceans that microplastics would basically be a solved problem within a few years because the microplastics would accumulate crap and drop to the bottom of the ocean?

I suspect Cellophane might actually be a good alterative as well. It's made out of natural cellulose fibers, so while it's insoluable fiber, it would be much different than petroplastics (or even potentially PLA).
