At our recent AC meeting Hiroshima, Japan 🇯🇵 Yosuke Kaneko, President of the Interplanetary Networking Special Interest Group (IPNSIG), spoke on his thoughts about connecting humanity even beyond the limits of our world.

He spoke about the potential to create a communications network from Earth to the Moon, and even to Mars 🌎 🌖 ✨

Does IPNSIG have anything to do with @ipfs? Because one of their goals is exactly what the video describes.

I think a BitTorrent/IPFS type approach would be useful for dealing with round trip delays etc. If there's, say, a node on Mars seeding an Earth website, the people living there wouldn't have to wait 40 minutes to load it.

@w3c I don't want to criticize, and maybe I'm old fashion, but; nobody lives there yet?

@leean00 true! the International Space Station has more visiting people than living there. but if you think of what else is in space - satellites (including those which make GPS work) orbiting the earth and moon; telescopes like Webb and Hubble; probes; and possible future trips to Mars, having a system for overall connected makes sense.
