@iska@catposter.club you mean cus activists watch on their co2 footprint? I am just curious, because I am an climate activist :)

@sakura@kitsunes.club Germany's "green party" was responsible for phasing out nuclear power plants, and a lot of those high profile activists emit more co2 in a year than others do in their lifetimes.

There's also the armchair people cheering on electric dump trucks, which technically don't emit co2 when used, but manufacturing one is disastrously bad because of how much Lithium you need

@iska@catposter.club If I remeber correctly you are from germany. Me too.

I dont think you are wrong with you opinion, but I would like to add something.

If you would get into a descussion with an activist and you would battle who has a lower footprint, the activist wouldn`t be smart.

The footprint was invented by BP. Split and rule. This would be a perfect example, of the success of the oil propaganda. If an activist came to you and would be angry at you for eating meat (for example). Big oil wants us to fight.

Instead (you seem to point out greener soloutions) we should focus together and adress politics.

Lidl recently matched their vegan alternative prices to their meat products and the people who bought the alternative jumped by 40%. Its all about politics, and incentives.

About your take on nuclear. I think on the one hand you are right, because if it is running its green electricity, but there are some drawbacks in my opinion.

I stop here. If I would right to much, while maybe I did not even get your point, this would get us spinning in an endless novel of arguments :)

I hope we can get an non distructive conversation going. Thanks

My bio literally says I'm Russian.
Lidl recently matched their vegan alternyative prices...
I'd rather abstain from meat than eat alternatives. I am aware that alternate meats should be less expensive, and j companies like to get a premium from vegans (probably because non-vegans would write it off)
My brother is a vegan and has talked about that issue, also wanting to solve it by starting a business. He hasn't succeeded and has gone back to Clojure programming (what a coincidence that we both discovered Lisp)
but there are some drawbacks in my opinion.
(can't read german, used google translate)
The article's talking points are that it takes long and is expensive, and needs careful handling. Those shouldn't turn away from solving a long term problem.
