Just when the dog gets over being lame….

Pretty sure it’s her left leg — she was holding it up a bit — but no sign of wound or swelling, and it moved freely when I had a feel.

I carried her to bed (thankfully the others didn’t decide to play a fun game of patio chase this evening), will see how she looks in the morning.

@Flick Oh no, poor thing. Freaks me out when the beasts get sick.

@HebrideanHecate And if dogs and cats are hard to diagnose….

I wonder if I still have the conversion factor I once laboriously calculated for dosing a duck with dog-strength metacam?

@Flick Is your vet a covers everything one, as in farmyard etc.

@HebrideanHecate Yes, proper old-school Herriot-style place.

(And I do still have the calculation I did: about the same as an 18kg dog! I remembered it was shockingly high, but I am still shocked.)

@Flick Oh no! I hope she is OK.

It also reminded me of when I was very young and my brother who was about 2 at the time used to put his tiny feet into my dad's slippers and wobble about the house singing "Wonky Duck. Wonky Duck." No idea what started him on it but we still tease him even though he is now in his 50s.

@macha As a general rule, ducks tend to either shrug things off or die suddenly (or lead to the vet saying “We could try but it would be £5000 and she’ll probably die anyway so…”). This seems more like a shrugging off thing to me, hopefully.

@Flick @macha I hope so, because sadly, yes

Around vets, never relax!

@Flick poor thing...

@Flick @HebrideanHecate Hopefully it'll be well and happily honking soon enough.

@Flick How is the duck today?

@HebrideanHecate I think she looks a bit better?

@Flick Putting it down a bit more, perhaps.

@HebrideanHecate Less wing action.

@HebrideanHecate Well, she’s made it up the steps with the others, and is now definitely putting weight on it. Handy, being able to film her from this level!

@Flick Well that's better than last night, hope she gets over it, poor love.

@HebrideanHecate In hindsight, I’ve noticed one occasionally limping before. Nothing like this bad, but I wonder if it’s the same one and she’s just got a bit of an iffy leg?

@Flick Could be. Is she eating?

@HebrideanHecate Yes. After I had a feel this morning I put her down next to the bowls and a bit later I looked out of the window and she was in them.

@Flick That's something anyway.

@Flick @HebrideanHecate Best wishes to your quacker

@HebrideanHecate @Flick Hope that your duck is better tomorrow. Keeping fingers crossed her her and you.
