Thinking you can just swap out one tech company for another and you're gonna find shelter from the storm is absurd. Everyone and everything is always for sale, and if there's one quick and easy company to buy out or to sue, it's a squishy target.

I think this could work if servers were a paid service (so it's actually sustainable and not running on borrowed time until VC money runs out), but clients were open source (so anyone could check if it's real E2EE). I don't have high hopes that this would see any adoption though, as (1) people absolutely hate paying for things and (2) companies hate when customers can develop alternative clients and servers.
