FBXL Social

Never did hear back as to whether the FUTO Licence was considered proprietary or not.

@Hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net, @gabriel@mk.gabe.rocks, @phnt@fluffytail.org.

From FUTO?

Yeah, couple of people were reading over the licence to try and figure out whether it was proprietary or not. I've decided to air on the side of it being proprietary though.

@Hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net

Oh no. I mean it has now changed into it's final form. Read it. It's much better now. It doesn't ban noncommercial forks any more, only commercial ones (you're supposed to pay to get a license for that).

It allows noncommercial forks now.
But still bans commercial ones unless you pay AFAICS. Which I think is fair: if you're making money from it you should have to pay it back.

I agree, but it is still in principle non-free in accordance with the FSF and OSF.

@Hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net Damn who would have guessed

@Hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net I've been seeing them claim it is actually open source lately tho which is in improvement.

It's not actually open source though, what do you mean? It's just closer.

@Hyolobrika@social.fbxl.net I meant I've not* seen them claim that lately. They used to do false advertising about this.

Yeah, I think they're calling it "FUTO-y software" now.

FYI they have a video on their PeerTube addressing this.
Interesting listen.
