Retail theft in the US already exceeds $100 billion / year. I'm wondering how much this contributes to inflation nationwide? Or is the economic effect just regional?

Recent mass theft at California AutoZone.

@sensei

autozone?

@magicalthinking Car parts store.

@sensei

Is it the only store left open in CA?
Why would anyone bumrush the autoparts store?

@magicalthinking Much of the retail theft in California is organized. Apparently, there's a market for stolen auto parts. Or a distributor ("fence") offering to pay for them.

@sensei

Just when you thought CA couldn't get lamer...

@sensei

As a proud shareholder of Autozone stock - it has been a very good stock to own - those useless, worthless, mouth breathers can stay the hell out of Autozone stores!!

One reason why I bought this particular retail stock is because of this very situation - theft occurring by gangbangers in CA. Autozone does not hold most of its stock in its little stores. It delivers items to all auto repair services from warehouse to customer. Ya don't lose millions like Walmart, Home Depot, etc.

@sensei Mormon tabernacle choir at it again

Just imagine, some shady guy on a streetcorner, "Hey, hey. Do you want the right turn signal from a 1987 datsun?"
