Conservatives win longtime Liberal stronghold of Toronto-St. Paul’s | Toronto Sun

https://torontosun.com/news/local-news/polls-have-closed-in-must-win-byelection-for-liberals-in-toronto

This is like a Republican stealing Schumer's seat or Schiff's. It is such a Liberal riding, this is like the Sun went out for the Libs. It's been held by a Liberal since the 90s.

Toronto, being the progressive nitwits they are, had EIGHTY-FOUR candidates on the ballot.

One of the more probable outcomes any other year, the disgruntled Liberal voters would've voted NDP or Green.

The fact is they did NOT.

@PNS lol i mean jesus christ the 'liberals' have overtly ushered in a chinese owned medical police state, how hard could it have been for these conservatives?

@dictatordave

Lib MP Carolyn Bennett held the seat for 25 years. As I say, despite Toronto's low collective IQ, they held their noses and voted like adults for once in their lives.

@dictatordave

As bellwethers go, this augurs very poorly for the Liberals.

@dictatordave

The Liberal Candidate Leslie Church's husband works for a pharma company and he was vocal about vax passports and forced vaccinations.

@PNS i hope so, and i hope it causes a fuckin meltdown screed about muh far right
when i imagine this conservative is barely marginally different when you get down to brass tacks

@dictatordave

Would I have liked EDM to have won the Cup? Sure. But this is much, much better.

@dictatordave

We'll begin seeing rumblings about Trudy stepping down now...

@dictatordave

They finished counting the vote at 4:30am, because they had so many candidates on the ballot.

@PNS no burst pipes or ferraris dropping off pallets of ballots? that's some rookie shit

@PNS who's popular to take over from jt jag off?

@dictatordave

Oh their bench is pooched. They only have their most conspicuous lights to fall back on... Freeland... World Bank Mark Carney.

@dictatordave

I'd even go so far as to point out that EDM winning last night would've given Trudy an opportunity to grandstand he's such a patriotic Canadian. He can't claim he brought the cup back to the Great White North.

@Sophistifunk

Right?! It's ridiculous.

@Sophistifunk

It's been 30 years. That's not a glitch.

The thing you need to understand about Canada is it's not reeeeally a democracy. I mean, there's members of Parliament whom are elected, but the head of the ruling party is also in charge of the executive, so there's an overwhelming amount of power in one man. That can be bad, as we've seen with Trudeau, but it can also be really good if you get a leader who is willing to do the right thing, and it does happen.

Is Poilievre the man who will do the right thing? I don't know, but I sure hope so, because I'm putting my money where my mouth is.

The one thing is that things aren't going to immediately get better. If he's doing his job things will immediately feel way worse because he needs to unbreak a lot and that process will hurt in the moment (it hurt back when Mulroney did it too after the first Trudeau), but then things start to get better in a virtuous cycle.

It's infuriating watching the Libs predict the austerity Pierre needs to implement to correct for Trudy's largesse. And they'll spend their time in Opposition, decrying all the cuts Pierre will have to make.

The Left are such criminals. They caused the problem but they'll never grok their responsibility.
