Why do I need to deny them liberty, regardless of how narrow the definition is?
One time a person was on my ballot with "National Socialist" as their party. That's well within a very narrow definition. Should we have tried to stop them from campaigning? Why? They're just going to lose anyhow - wouldn't it be better to have them come right out and tell you who they are?
I assumed the liberty we were thinking of denying was freedom of expression, and so I tried to think of the best case I could think of for denying them that.
Is there some other liberty that one would more want to deny someone because of their bad ideas?
Trying to get political power isn't a form of liberty IMO. Saying "I should have political power" is freedom of speech, but actually putting yourself on the ballot is not.
Campaigning and being on the ballot are two different things. I'm saying: take for granted that they are on the ballot, should you try to stop them from campaigning?
I don't know for sure, but I'm sympathetic to yes. Because of the estoppel argument and because they might win.
But now that I come to think of it, it would be better if they weren't on the ballot in the first place. Then it wouldn't really matter if they had free speech or not.
@condret@mangeurdenuage If you're going to advocate for the dehumanization of a class of people, you could at least provide a hard definition rather than "whatever I feel like." That just makes you even more of a tyrant than simply advocating for dehumanization of people does.
@condret@mangeurdenuage Also, if you don't see the danger in propaganda like this to everyone involved in it, you're frankly a lost cause. No better than IDF soldiers shooting babies in the head because they might grow up to be Hamas someday.
shout out to spw for being able to discuss this stuff without sperging the hell out into moderator gatekeeping. far more chill instance than poast or nice crew
@condret@mangeurdenuage If you want to deprive someone of liberties then probably there should be good evidence that the person believes others shouldn't have that liberty first. However generally I believe someone has the right to believe whatever they want but they can't act on it. which I guess implies I don't want them in public office.
@Hyolobrika@mangeurdenuage it is rather narrow, though i also believe there are other forms of fascism worth fighting against. it is about the idea that everybody MUST fulfill a rather predermined functional role in the world/state/nation/society and that nobody shall be allowed to ever escape that.
@mrsaturday@mangeurdenuage But the dehumanisation that the far-right advocate for is way beyond the dehumanisation that @condret was advocating for in the OP.
@sun@mangeurdenuage have you ever read a translation of Goebbels speech, where he makes fun of stupid democrats of the Weimar Republic granting them freedom of speech, which allowed the nazis to publicly spread their propaganda? I forgot which speech it was. i think we should learn a lessom from that
@night@condret@mrsaturday >without sperging the hell out into moderator gatekeeping These can also be the effects of demoralization. You can't advance into anything positive if you're not willing to be open to a courteous conversation.
That's the thing, some of these guys their actual job is demoralization. They don't want to find common ground they just want to bully off anyone criticizing the virtue signal. You can spot that shit a mile away, it's intentionally uncooperative. Performative flexing and no substance.
@night@condret@mrsaturday It's not necessarily their job, it can be unconscious, and most of the time the reasons are good intended, but you don't achieve good results with passive violence. It's also good to stop speaking about such issue and ignore it and have fun on your side too, maybe they'll learn to do the same.
when the value point they're guarding like it was their identity is perfectly aligned with regime cringe and they won't hear any criticism for it... natural to assume they work for the regime don't you think? It's possible they gatekeep for free, but unlikely. People without that conflict of interest for their payroll aren't usually so dogmatic.
@night@condret@mangeurdenuage German antifa receives government funding, so it's more than plausible, especially with the European tendency to outlaw any challenges to the status quo
@mrsaturday@night@mangeurdenuage "German antifa recieves government funding" - oh, i wish that was true. i still haven't been paid for any antifa protest, i've attended to.
@condret@Hyolobrika@mangeurdenuage I don't think simple rules prevent nazis because they took power beccause of a deterioration of the legitimacy and effectiveness of the state first. So I guess if you don't want nazis then politicians need to do their jobs and mind the store.
@sun@condret@mangeurdenuage@Hyolobrika the weimar republic was also a failed state and the nazis directly proffered solutions to a mass of angry workers.
failed states unfortunately can't fathom why someone would become an extremist and just relies on more authoritarianism and censorship, even though authoritarian and censorious ignoring of the public is why the failed state is about to get taken behind the woodshed.
@icedquinn@condret@mangeurdenuage@Hyolobrika I have definitely noticed in recent history that really strong norms can flip very quickly when legitimacy is weakened. because the truth is that things we think are unthinkable are actually pretty arbitrary when you compare to things we currently rationalize like relying on foreign slave labor to make our junk.
@sun@condret@mangeurdenuage@Hyolobrika it may or may not be salvageable but not by me. and i don't believe anyone in power or currently pending for power actually gives a damn.
@sun@condret@mangeurdenuage@Hyolobrika it requires hard problems like keeping the internet free (or, well, making it free again) and resolving issues like a billionaire buying all the farmland to make carbon sinks and municipalities blocking nitrogen shipments.
the public sees sleepy isreal and orange isreal as some public slapfight, and doesn't really notice much about the food infrastructure is currently failing by design.
@Hyolobrika@condret@mangeurdenuage I don't understand it in great detail except that it could only have happened because people were fed up with the current government and communist violence.
it's not even clear to me that you can ban parties that promote reductions of freedom because like in the USA there are politicians that would for example take away the right to own guns or radically reduce our conception of freedom of speech, should they be procedurally barred from office, where do you draw the line unless it's literally "I would ban further elections" which I am not even sure the nazi party said that, they just did it when they amassed enough power.
@Hyolobrika@condret@mangeurdenuage I might be overthinking this and it would make sense banning a party that has a history like the nazi party. but if I try to apply this to current events in the USA it's just not applicable in my mind. Trump is very bad in a lot of ways but he's just not hitler, people that say 2024 will be the last year of american elections is desperate bleating of a major political party running out of paths to winning.
@sun@condret@mangeurdenuage >in the USA there are politicians that would for example take away the right to own guns or radically reduce our conception of freedom of speech, should they be procedurally barred from office, Maybe they should. Liberty > democracy. Not as certain about the gun thing as I am about the speech thing, but guns do seem useful in protecting civil liberties such as free speech in case the system fails (thinking mainly about the US here).
>where do you draw the line I'm not sure. But you can ask that about anything. Doesn't mean it can't be done.
@sun@Hyolobrika@condret@mangeurdenuage The absurdity of this is, Trump was a President before. The worst that can happen is another prosperity and a growth of real wages among Afrian-Americans.
@condret@mangeurdenuage@sun@Hyolobrika high taxes that were just shipped overseas or to the rich (war bond owners)--basically reverse robin hood on a major scale--left it relatively bankrupt. this is pretty normal history book stuff.
the reparations demands were so bad the USA refused to join the league of nations and GB reluctantly did but waived any claims to them. Whatever the rest of europe didn't seize was being milked dry to pay off bond holders (which amounted to a superminority of Germans), which was something the original national socialists had proclaimed they were going to abolish.
This is the same kind of scheme europe ran in the colonial days too. Its just that now it was being done to other europeans.
Actually I was just fine being a conservative but then you called me a Nazi for like 10 years so now I'm a Nazi and I hope to help destroy everything you sniveling faggots ever worked for haha
@icedquinn@mangeurdenuage@sun@Hyolobrika i guess what you say is not wrong but one of the main problems were the lack of public spending on public infrastructure and lack of investments in local industries. those things go probably hand in hand under the umbrella of Brünings deflationary economic policies.
@d0c40r0@matty@condretI just wanted to be a degenerate Nazi that had sex with hundreds of women while taking drugs and being racist and being worth billions of dollars. Jews took this away from me though 😡
@Dan_Hulson@d0c40r0@matty@condretI just want to annoy bongs and beat up pedos while dressed up like a French stereotype but no the fucking kikes won’t let me
Getting the boot stamped on your face for a decade straight tends to make you go from "The authoritarian boot is wrong no matter who wears it" to "I want a turn wearing the fucking boot".
@ForbiddenDreamer@yockeypuck@condret I want to block golfcartlady since she mercilessly removed me from her follower and stopped following me on old account after a long time of good relations me wishing her good morning, sharing flower and cat pics on caturday. I don't understand it. Thing is everyone is called golfcartlady now already blocked one wrong account
I just wanted to be left alone, now I'm forced to see faggots and niggers shoved into everything. Was it too much to ask to have lock out tag out training without shoving lmnop niggers into the otherwise text based training?
@shedinja@d0c40r0@matty@Dan_Hulson@condretI didn’t actually check her genealogy 7 generations back so who knows. she is very white and has a very cute southern accent that is stronger than mine
@matty@condretSame here. I honestly was fine with the way things were, even with gays and troons. But they couldnt stop touching the fucking kids long enough to keep the charade going
@condretCool story bro, now lets have a look at actual history. Allied forces join in the Bolshevik terror well into the 50's and (((Communism))) has destroyed hundreds of millions of lives since. Hitler had nothing to do with this other than being a formidable obstacle to the Marxist's intent of world domination.
@mrsaturday@condret@mangeurdenuage I think we've lost track of what we were talking about a bit. You said: > If you're going to advocate for the dehumanization of a class of people, you could at least provide a hard definition rather than "whatever I feel like." That just makes you even more of a tyrant than simply advocating for dehumanization of people does. And I pointed out that the people who "simply advocate for dehumanization of people" advocate for far more dehumanization of people than condret did in the OP.
@yockeypuck@condret I watched the Hitler youth. Fuck if I wanted as a kid do those exercises, gymnastics like some sort of robot. I wanted to smoke weed and drink
@Diceynes@yockeypuck@condretOur fucked up world is what made us want to act like that though. under a nice hopeful White loving all embracing Fascist state we would have been happy and not need drugs and booze to be happy.
@Diceynes@yockeypuck@condretAs was I in my younger days I needed to try everything at least once (ie a 1000 times) but later the drugs and booze became a crutch for my loss of hope and deteriorating mental state at the sheer state of the world
@Dan_Hulson@Diceynes@yockeypuck@condretim in a mild form of that phase rn. i had sort of a quarter-life crisis where I felt too good and uncorrupted and threw away most of my morals about sex and drugs. I don’t really like it much and wish I could just be married and have a normal life, but I’m stuck in this FOMO state where I wanna reap as many spoils as I can from this degen society before we take over and whip it back into shape
@Omega_Variant@Diceynes@Dan_Hulson@yockeypuck@condretIm numb to the idea we can win if we care so much about what drugs someone’s done, if they’ve had premarital sex, or if they have tattoos. Those are so common these days it alienates too many (at the risk of creating a slippery slope situation). what matters to me is if someone is straight and white, and believes that our race is under attack by Jews who dominate our institutions. That, to me, is the most important message we need to convey. The rest can come later
Shouldn't you at least require repentance? I mean, if some chick has fucked 100 guys and has tattoos on her hands and neck, being highly suspect is not unwarranted.
I'm not saying people who have done it are a loss, moreso they need to stop and stay away. You cannot teach a new generation to do better when you yourself refuse to. No one likes a hypocrite.
I think you underestimate the damage drugs and promiscuity has on our people.
No one will attain perfection though, I understand that
@icedquinn@condret@mangeurdenuage@sun I don't think authoritarianism and censorship is the concern of people who would try to bring fascists or MLs into power
@branman65@yockeypuck@condret I wouldn't say I am a loser but a little degeneracy never hurt anyone other than people taking themselves too seriously or being holier than everyone else, having some sort of delusion of grandeur.
@Diceynes@yockeypuck@condretshut the fuck up you waste of space also >smokes weed if you're going to waste your life doing drugs at least do something interesting like meth or something
@branman65@Diceynes@yockeypuck@condretPeople choose drugs to balance whatever they have going on with their makeup. Some people like stimulants some like depressants, some like both.
@DC5FAN@branman65@yockeypuck@condret I agree drugs being bad. But it's up to everyone if they choose to mess up and to what degree. There shouldn't be any master deciding for you like this fella
@branman65@DC5FAN@yockeypuck@condret I doubt God makes judgment about drug use. You sound very defective mentally speaking. You don't seem to grasp basic human life at all
@yockeypuck@DC5FAN@branman65@condret I am sure the least thing God would consider is someone smoking weed. Besides the God I believe in just re-create existence for eternity. I am sure it isn't a mainstream God
@Diceynes@DC5FAN@branman65@condretlol you made up a false god so you could have weed-smoking theology? That's the most weed-brained thing I've ever heard.
@yockeypuck@DC5FAN@branman65@condret I don't believe in Abraham. I just believe in some force recreating existence. I don't understand what me smoking weed at 14-16 I am 41 now is any of your or anyone's business
@DC5FAN@branman65@condret@yockeypuck you know most people on your own instance probably have used harder drugs than me. I don't think poast is known for having God's most innocent creatures. Were you bullied at school?
I want to pop in here to just say that I am horrified absolutely revolted that anyone would actually smoke wacky tabacky or goofy ganja. It's truly shocking and I cannot express my dismay enough
@Jonaschuzzlewit@DC5FAN@branman65@yockeypuck@condret I am a sinner and accept whatever punishment for the whacky tabacky is coming. I hope it will be endless forceful copulation by the top 1% women in heaven. Though I will just pretend it's not voluntary making them forcefully copulate with me even more
I just meant that supposedly it's more of a decentralized movement than an organization. But I don't know how true that is. Maybe @condret can add more.
