remind me never

I wonder if they'll get away with no longer providing security updates to Windows 10.

At some point, CISA is going to have questions. There are going to be millions upon millions of Windows 10 machines out there, festering.

@IceCubeSoup The entirety of the defense industrial base is running on Windows 7 embedded.

@rubberducky I presume they have sufficient resources deployed such that they are able to do so safely.

Microsoft never actually said that. They did nothing to combat that perception, however.

@harvhat

@harvhat yes, you can see how that quote sparked the meme.

the breathless headlines didn't help.

They said I needed Windows 10 or better, so I installed Linux 😉

@harvhat @IceCubeSoup

@IceCubeSoup @rubberducky this is the way it has worked for at least the last 10 years. Big orgs (especially gov) pay big bucks to M$ for special security updates after end-of-life.

@IceCubeSoup This happens with every version of Windows. They'll continue to kick the support can down the road for years.

@greenzeta @IceCubeSoup It's the frequency and motivation of patching that changes. It's more reactive than proactive, and only critical vs high or important as time goes on.

sounds great! where do I sign up? :)

@fkq1q2r2 @greenzeta

@IceCubeSoup @greenzeta Block windows updates on your firewall! 😁

O&O Shutup10 (free of charge) will let you totally stop windows updates. Obviously not something you want to do with something directly on the public Internet, but if you're behind a firewall it'd be just fine.
