Part of the biggest problem right now is that leftist purity testing is being used to shrink the number of people eligible to become elites, since we are in a part of the cycle where the average income isn't enough to live a reasonable life and people are crawling over each other to get a limited number of decent paying jobs.
You almost have to feel for the baby boomers, everybody wants to attack them, but the rank and file didn't do what the elites did. No factory workers voted to move the factories to China. One of the great myths of our age is that economic growth is inherently good, but the only people who get paid as a percentage of GDP are the politicians.
