@sun Err this one
@sun >He surrenders part of his freedom to discord.
@Suiseiseki I didn't do it.
@sun They already started with that shit? Man, I miss TeamSpeak...
@sun I was going to do a webdev course, but giving Discord my cell phone number is a hard requirement and that is way outside my allowable disclosures.
@Hyolobrika @sun I only know one person who used it back in the day. TS was very good, although the 32 person per server limit was abusive, though.
@captainepoch @sun @Hyolobrika mumble is OK but the protocol and the clients need updating.
it transmits images with base64 encoding

@captainepoch @sun @Hyolobrika yes. chat is some line text protocol or something, and images are bodged on with base64.
for voice chat mumble works fine but it could do with some UX overhauls (and, perhaps, switching to webrtc like literally everyone else now does so we can shovel the web client on top of murmur like people are wanting)

@icedquinn @sun @Hyolobrika I refuse to convert Mumble into another webshit thingy.
Also, you would be surprised how MANY Android apps transmit PDFs with "sensible" information in Base64

@captainepoch @sun @Hyolobrika webrtc is basically SIP by retarded webdevs. i think it basically IS rejacketed sip.
but the reality is everyone else is now offering zero-download web browser support, so that is where we need to be

> but the reality is everyone else is now offering zero-download web browser support, so that is where we need to be
Why? We don't need to be anywhere near those people.

@captainepoch @sun @Hyolobrika i mean you aren't filling the ttrpg seats i would have lost not capitulating to discord, so.
@icedquinn @sun @Hyolobrika I have friends who only use Discord nowadays and I don't care the slightest about them. And I played with them before, when I had my TS server.
Nowadays I play with a couple of friends over Mumble just fine.

@captainepoch @Hyolobrika @sun i still use it sometimes but its deluded to think discords onboarding isn't far superior to "wait go download this, yes find this exe link here, ok install it, don't worry about what 'were generating a certificate for you' means, navigate this window to add a server, ok now paste this IP'"
haha click discord.shit/fuckballs welcome to chat
there are ways we could make it better. not just fucking encoding attachments as base64 to use a line protocol is low hanging fruit

@icedquinn @sun @Hyolobrika You might be right, but if people force you to use Discord just because, maybe they're not to have around.
I hate seeing good software turned into webshit, electron-based apps. TS did, and the new client is just too weird to use.
If someone does, welp, if the native client is supported I'm good with it. Otherwise, fork Murmur, please...

@icedquinn @sun @captainepoch What extra steps, it was a long time since I used it, but if I remember correctly, it wasn't that hard.
@Hyolobrika @sun @captainepoch you have to set up a relay so it can websocket->mumble and then it acts like the desktop software. its not quite "push button -> approve mic permission -> bacon" that stuff like jam is https://github.com/jam-systems/jam
@sun @Hyolobrika @captainepoch haven't installed it. family drama has been in the way the past month
