I wish all mail spammers a very fucking kill yourselves

@Hyolobrika

Several years ago I went back to self-hosting SMTP, and in that entire time I've had maybe like 50 or so spam messages in total since. Compared to gfail where I had sometimes upwards of 1000/day (or 2-3x that) for just one of my catch all inboxes, never mind all my domains combined. Apart from fail2ban, I can chalk it up mostly to having a good list of RBL's and bounce lists for addresses I no longer use. I can't honestly remember the last time I got a spam message. It's got to have been upwards of a year ago or more. So far as I know no one I actually want to hear from has had any issue emailing me either (ie. zero false positives). 3rd-party email services absolutely suck salty balls when it comes to spam filtering. I'm just one nerd with too much time on his hands. If I can do that basically in my sleep, they've got to be idiots.

@Hyolobrika you should check out schlock mercenary (a webcomic). "grand spamming" is a big offence there.

Doesn't self-hosting email usually result in being blocked by major providers?

@Hyolobrika

I haven't had that problem. I guess because I have all the TLS, SPF, DKIM and DMAC setup properly. If you don't do that then yes, it would most likely be an issue.

@Hyolobrika Sidenote: it starts out rather immature, but has great progress to a sophisticated storyline and interesting philosophical questions asked.
