Having officially upgraded from 16GB to a whopping 32GB of memory, I'm excited at the prospect of having three chrome tabs open at once without swapping to disk!

Lol, switch to the brave browser

I was just joking, I've been using brave on all my devices that can run it for years. The only Google product I still use on a daily basis is YouTube.

@sj_zero @dwarvenallfather i use opera, because i don't like ot swithc around browswers i just find something that i like and keep with it, like an old man.

Youtube is life changing technology. Best Google product! (they bought it, didn't originally build it).

I use a proxy app to view Youtube videos, so at least Google isn't easily tracking every video I watch.

I also host and use #peertube... but I acknowledge that Youtube has dominance when it comes to where people go to view and post videos.

#video #youtube

On that point, it's very obvious that a lot of the views & viewers on YouTube are simply there to be there, or are fake. I think it's high time we accept that they aren't really quality participants. Yes, many will lose money, but they were simply shouting into the void and advertisers were paying for it. WE were paying for it.

It's a golden handcuffs problem. It will hurt, but once they're off, creators can grow stronger. Right now, one change & money lost.

tbh it's a two sided problem because it's difficult to argue against the fact that google has a really good product for consumers too. You go to rumble or bitchute and even if you want to there's a lot of features you just won't get there.

With real viewers, systems like peertube will thrive.

Also, I truly believe that peertube needs to implement some ability for users to support a channel by sharing the bandwidth. Especially when not at home or on the site.

I think peertube already does that using webtorrent so if a video is super popular anyone watching it is also helping to seed for other watchers.

Viewers only "help" if they leave the page open. I want to support so many, but I can't set something to just sink and help stream a channel's videos. The only way to do that is to set up your own peer tube server and have their server accept yours as a peer. You can't just have the video and seed it, like regular bit torrent.

Brave is arguably a Google byproduct.

True, there's not a lot of browsers out there in terms of what they're built on -- chromium and firefox are the base of most of them. There's a new browser from scratch that was started a few months ago but it doesn't do much yet since it's really a massive undertaking.

Oh cool! I actually haven't heard of it. What is it?

Was reading a bit about it a month or two ago.
