Linux Distros Market Share Evolution from 2018 to 2024, month by month (gaming context): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pwt216nn0zE

didn't realise that ubuntu lost so much marketshare, given every single vps provider still has it as default

@burner the server market is quite different from the desktop market at this stage

I tend towards xubuntu or kubuntu instead of base Ubuntu but I'm also surprised.

ohh, is this only desktop? that makes a lot more sense then

Do you not count steamos? Or is the marketshare low

I cant find the actual numbers but steam os makes up 1.6% of all steam use and 40% of all linux use on steam is steam os.

@Dudebro @burner because of the Steam Deck. Once you remove the Steam Deck from the equation you get these numbers and SteamOS is very, very small on desktop.

@burner SteamOS is only big on the Steam Deck. It's close to 0% on the Desktop (very little).

do you not count steamos as desktop?

@burner It's counted. But ProtonDB users are mostly reportings stats on the Desktop, not from the Steam Deck. So this data shows the usage of distros on regular PCs, excluding the Steam Deck.

Got it

@boilingsteam I wonder what the OS numbers are under Flatpaks. I know Fedora pushes it hard... The Flatpaks have a fair weight to that list.

@mhynlo Yeah I would like to know as well, but there is no way we can find out right now...

@boilingsteam Linux Mint Debian Edition is fairly exceptional so that comes as no surprise to me but that's up with the Arch numbers? Is that counting in Steam Decks?

@RedFaster nope this is desktop Linux users
