Fediverse is woke, pack it up

When people try to pin me for talking to 'X', I tell them well I've also talked to communist trannies -- but that doesn't make me either a tranny or a communist.

@sun
Sounds like this city slicker ain't familiar with Pleroma, is he?
Never mind Mastodon's creator being a big baby and sour kraut.

@sun I knew all those accounts with swastika emojis in their name were just controlled opposition.

@sun who is this hobo looking dude

Lunduke does good work sometimes, but you can also tell he sometimes is totally full of shit.

It's like... great dude, you found some woke accounts on the fediverse. Shame you're missing the best part.

@sun oh he is still alive

@sun I used to watch his rants about Linux when he was posting them on YT

I think he was cancelled in the early masto wave from twitter, so he likely never heard of it.

@sun@shitposter.world What the fuck happened to Lunduke?

@SuperDicq @sun the same thing that happened to rms and gaben

@lucy @SuperDicq what happened to gaben

@lucy @SuperDicq oh wait do you mean cancel mobs

@sun

Who's gonna tell him Truth Social is a fork of Mastodon?

@lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world I'm not sure what you mean. rms just seems like the usual rms to me, he doesn't talk about woke.

Gaben I have no idea because I don't closely follow gaben because I'm not interested in the opinions of a former Microsoft employee that owns the world's largest DRM platform.

@sun @SuperDicq going from "generic windows poweruser" aesthetic to "jesus incarnate"

@lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world That's just physical appearance, but is Gaben yelling about woke now?

@lucy @SuperDicq @sun gabe is santa claus

@hj@shigusegubu.club @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world Isn't jesus christ the holy father and santa claus the same thing? Sorry I'm not really into the Bible fandom.

@sun why his glasses look like they've been photoshopped in

also this cracker obviously only been to troon/safespace instances, never been called a slur.... until now.

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun I heard Valve has some kind of toxic new-age-y flat organization structure where you are supposed to pretend like its not a dictatorship while still behaving properly according to your master.

@asa@shitposter.world @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world That's always been the case. Nothing new.

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun I guess when you have a monopoly you can afford to do stupid inefficient shit like that

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun decadent is the word I was looking for

@asa @SuperDicq @lucy it has proponents and it has critics. It's not totally clear that it's actually bad. It is unusual but Valve is an insanely profitable company and the system made a bunch of developers millionaires too

@hj @sun He was on mastosoc for a short period of time before they banned him. For a long time he was only on Twitter until a month or two ago when he created a linuxrocks.online account. LRO doesn't seem like a woke instance and so far hasn't banned him yet I think. Although they got fediblocked pretty hard.

@phnt @hj iirc the owner said they would not remove him, that is what set off the fediblocks

@sun @SuperDicq @lucy as I said, precisely because its insanely profitable and has a monopoly, they can afford to do shit that is unsustainable and it will be sustained by the brute force power of mony

@sun@shitposter.world @asa@shitposter.world @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz Yeah I can't really criticize the way Valve works internally because I do think that most of their games don't feel limited in a creative way at least, unlike more traditionally organized companies.

@asa @SuperDicq @lucy they were doing it before they were in the position they are now.

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun Jesus is Joshua, son of Joseph (bug his apostles called him JoJo) of Jerusalem, depending on who you ask he was a messiah (judaism), god's son (catholicism/orthodoxy) or just a criminal (romans at the time). Santa Claus is Saint Nick aka Saint Nicholas the Wondermaker/wonermaker, a bishop, he's fairly more popular in east orthodoxy than in catholicism for some reason.

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun Valve makes games?

@hj@shigusegubu.club @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world I don't really care about the inner divides among the fandom.

@sun @phnt beware of the pipelines

>goes on fedi
>calls someone a nigger
>gets banned
Waaaah fedi is woke

>goes on fedi
>gets called a nigger
>leaves
Waaaah fedi is alt-right

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun now all of the inner divides want you either dead or condemned for this statement, sorry.

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun first time I hear of it, looks like TF2 meets Overwatch or something

@asa @SuperDicq @lucy you are allowed to work on whatever you want when you work at valve, the criticism that people make is not that it is unsustainable or that it's bad for creativity; the complaint is that even thgough the formal organization is flat, that there is an implicit power hierarchy that can hurt you if you cross it.

@sj_zero @sun guess he isn't immune to propaganda as well ;)

@asa@shitposter.world @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world No, it's actually just third person Dota 2.

If you're gonna go into it with the mindset that it's like Overwatch, you're gonna have a bad time.

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun idk I just literally saw a picture of it

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun @asa Valve's structure is a unique one. It doesn't force developers to work on a project, instead developers choose the projects they want to work at. It sounds reasonable, but in reality, developers choose to work on bigger successful projects like CS and Dota instead of creating new great games like they did when they were starting out. It's great for employees, not so great for their fans.

@sun That man looks terrified that someone in the house is going to find his piss jar collection.

@sun @SuperDicq @lucy so they just adopt you and give you money and you do whatever you want.

Then at the end of the year or something a random person from the company is assigned to review your work, and your peers vote on whether you should be fired or promoted or hanged or given a bonus.

This is my understanding of Valve.

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun @asa it's yet another addition to failing FPS+MOBA genre

just like Super Monday Night Combat and Battleborn before it. Let's see if it fails or not.

@hj@shigusegubu.club @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world @asa@shitposter.world Except unlike all the other games that failed in this genre Deadlock is very likely going to do well because it is actually a really well designed game.

@sun @SuperDicq @lucy @asa Hard to say really, it's one of those companies entirely carried by one product that became so insanely profitable they could largely do whatever they wanted. Many others in that situation overhired, Valve seems to have kept a relatively small core staff so the gravy train is very sustainable for them. I know I'd do the same if I acquired a golden goose.

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun @asa i can only hope. I just don't like unstable balance types of games and games you can't take it easy in.

t. battleborn trauma
t. smnc disdain
t. overwatch trauma

@SuperDicq @hj @lucy @sun Did they hire an expert to design the game like with Artifact?

sry I will stop now

@lucy @SuperDicq @sun >jesus incarnate
more like stallman after a shower

@mer@shrine.moe @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world I do not like comparing the man who invented freedom to the man who popularized DRM.

@asa@shitposter.world @hj@shigusegubu.club @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world I never got into Artifact because I don't like TCGs in general, but from what I heard from Artifact players was that Artifact was actually a pretty decent TCG but Valve just killed it due to lack of updates and such.

@SuperDicq @hj @lucy @sun It literally died a couple days after being launched, nobody was playing, then they killed it.

@asa @SuperDicq @lucy @sun yes, artifact was actually really well designed and fun to play, but it fell short because of "oh valve is making cashgrabs now" (while the real cashgrab was Dota Underlords) public perception and lack of updates and/or monetization/adding new cards plans.

One very good aspect of Deadlock is that it's a new setting or as other people call it, new IP

@sun @SuperDicq @lucy @asa I don't think that the power hierarchy is that much noticeable in game creation at least. Both Gabe and the creator of the Portal series, whose name I forgot, said they would like to make sequels, but they couldn't find people that wanted to work on them and didn't want to force anyone.

Individual projects might be different though.

@phnt @SuperDicq @lucy @sun seems like they dont want to hire people, because clearly there is many people in the world that would sell their mom to work on a Portal game.

I understand the sentiment of not wanting to introduce new people into a group that is doing well currently.

@hj @SuperDicq @lucy @sun I didnt find Artifact fun and I think most people didnt, thats why it died, the concept with cards was that you would keep them forever in your steam account items page, and they had monetary value, a couple cents or dollars each (for the rare cards), kinda like real "items" that you own.

I think the reason why the game died is because the concept of having three tables per game you are playing simultaneously is just confusing and not fun.

@hj@shigusegubu.club @asa@shitposter.world @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world Everyone forgot about Underlords because nobody played it in the first place, unlike Artifact.

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun @asa I played it... once. I played artifact... twice. I think Tyler McFucker realy liked artifact, geniunely.

@lanodan @phnt @sun posts that give you tinnitus

@sun ā€œFacebook is wokeā€ tell that to all the conspiracy theorists who believe Trump was sent by god to fight the anti-christ

@asa @SuperDicq @lucy @sun ā€œnew age-yā€ they just never created a formal hierarchy since the olden days when they could actually be a flat org because there were only like 10 people

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun I donā€™t think Gaben has ever said anything political, unless you count the stuff about Microsoft from 2013 when he announced Steam coming to Linux

overall heā€™s still the same as he has been for as long as heā€™s been in the games space, just, yā€™know, older

@Reiddragon@fedi.reimu.info @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world The most political thing Gaben ever said was when he said "Single-player games are like a feature film where your lead actor is retarded and autistic"

@hj @SuperDicq @lucy @sun actually santa claus and saint nicholas are only the same in some versions, in Romania, for example, theyā€™re distinct entities

@Reiddragon @SuperDicq @lucy @sun in eastern-bloc there is no santa claus, only Grandpa Frost

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun wait what? when did he say that?

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun @mer DRM goes back far before Valve or Steam, and, if nothing else, Steam was one of the first ones that didnā€™t fucking suck for the player unlike what came before, things like StarForce that outright broke your hardware

@Reiddragon @SuperDicq @lucy @mer The difference between Steam and everyone else is that on Steam you can choose not to use DRM for your game.

@hj @SuperDicq @lucy @sun that got burried 12ft under with the revolution of ā€˜89 in Romania, instead weā€™ve had ā€œOld Man Christmasā€ since then

@sun@shitposter.world @Reiddragon@fedi.reimu.info @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @mer@shrine.moe

you can choose not to use DRM for your game.
Depends on your definition of DRM. I'm still can't download the "DRM-free" game I purchased without installing the Steam client first.

@SuperDicq @Reiddragon @lucy @sun there's games you can buy on GoG and steam
you need the steam client to buy a game *from* steam anyway so DLing it shouldnt be an issue

@mer@shrine.moe @Reiddragon@fedi.reimu.info @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world You don't need the Steam client to buy a game on Steam. You can buy a game on the a website.

@mer@shrine.moe @Reiddragon@fedi.reimu.info @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world GOG is seriously better in this regard because while they have the GOG Galaxy client is is fully optional and they simply allow you to download your games in a zip file on the website.

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun @mer ā€œin a zip fileā€ oh if only, instead they have their shitty installers that donā€™t even have a GUI on Linux anymore because they depend on GTK2

@Reiddragon@fedi.reimu.info @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world @mer@shrine.moe Depends on the game, they sometimes have shitty installers indeed.

their shitty installers that donā€™t even have a GUI on Linux anymore because they depend on GTK2
Your distro doesn't have GTK2? What the fuck are you using?

@SuperDicq @lucy @sun @mer it does have gtk2 in the repos, but what the fuck even is there to have it installed on most peopleā€™s systems? and imagine if youā€™re someone who doesnā€™t know you can also run the installer in a terminal without the GUI, then you just see the installer not starting and think itā€™s completely broken

@Reiddragon@fedi.reimu.info @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world @mer@shrine.moe Personally with proprietary crap like this I expect it to have weird unexpected dependencies to be honest. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Most people already have GTK2 installed anyway. There are lots of free software applications that still require GTK2. GIMP is a very common one that comes to mind for example.

The Steam client contains a lot more bullshit than the GOG installers do actually.

@Reiddragon@fedi.reimu.info @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world @mer@shrine.moe I agree that would be nice to have if GOG at least told users that GTK2 is a requirement on the download page.

@SuperDicq @Reiddragon @lucy @sun @mer steam is mostly a mountain of electron these days, afaik

@icedquinn @Reiddragon @SuperDicq @lucy @mer imo it works better than when it was C++.

@sun @Reiddragon @SuperDicq @lucy @mer i love being unable to run other programs because steam exhausted the x client handles and has spawned >300 chrome subprocesses

@SuperDicq @Reiddragon @lucy @sun @mer Well you can also just unzip/bsdtar xvf the thing and so avoid running their code. (Or innoextract for the Windows ones)

@lanodan @SuperDicq @lucy @sun @mer except for the part where innoextract canā€™t always make sense of them, and even when it does make sense of the installer, youā€™re often times left with a mess of files to figure out yourself

@Reiddragon @SuperDicq @lucy @sun @mer I guess I'm lucky, even though I tend to stick to the Linux games as I avoid buying games with no Linux support (main exception being ones with official or reimplemented engine being open-source).

@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me @Reiddragon@fedi.reimu.info @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world @mer@shrine.moe If I'm running proprietary garbage anyway I personally don't really care if I have to fire up Wine or Proton either.

@SuperDicq @Reiddragon @lucy @sun @mer yeah, just neat when you just need the assets and none of the executables.

@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me @Reiddragon@fedi.reimu.info @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @sun@shitposter.world @mer@shrine.moe Yeah of course that isn't a usecase that the original developers thought about.

@sun X shitter and Truth are both Nazi trashbins on fire lol. They are not in any position to tell others anything
